1テモテ 2:1(リビングバイブル JCB)　 さて、次のことを勧めます。すべての人のために、神のあわれみが注がれるよう熱心に祈り、とりなしなさい。そして、やがて彼らにも恵みが与えられると信じて、感謝しなさい。

神は私たちが祈りによってともに協力し働くことを使命しています。「神は全能であり、全知であられるのに、私たちが祈りによって共に働きこの世界を変えることを神が選ばれました。これは具体的にどのようになされるかは私たちの限られた理解のなかで不思議であり奥義なのですが、事実であり、現実です」（LASB解釈書）。パウロはさらに続けて特に王と支配者、重い責任を持つ権威の人々のために祈るようにと勧めていますが、この箇所の焦点のカギは「すべての人のため」と言うことです。神の御計画と目的はある特定の人のためだけではなく、どこにでもおられる、すべての人のためです。神の救いの計画はこの世におられるすべての人を含まれるものです（ヨハネ3:16参照）。そして、その心の奥底の願いは「すべての人が救われて、真理を理解するに至ることを切に望んでおられます」（4節JCB）。他のみことばでも、「一人でも滅びないように、すべての人が悔い改める」（2ペテロ3:9 JCB）ことを願っていると書かれています。だからこそ、私たちはすべての人々、特に私たちの影響範囲にある人々のために祈るべきです。また、「正しい人の祈りは大きな力があり、驚くほどの効果があります」(ヤコブ5:16 JCB)とあります（正しい人とはイエスキリストの身代わりによってキリストの正しさを与えられている者です（2コリント。5:21参照）。どのように祈るべきかはイエスも教えてくださいました。「あなたの御国が来ますように。天の御国でと同じように、この地上でも、あなたの御心が行われますように」（マタイ6:10 JCB）。彼らがどのように応答するのかは私たちの責任ではありません。神の心と願いに基づいて協力し祈ることが私たちの責任です。

1Ti 2:1 NLT  I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.

Observation

God has commissioned us to cooperate and work with him through prayer. “Although God is all-powerful and all-knowing, he has chosen to let us help him change the world through our prayers.  How this works is a mystery to us because of our limited understanding, but it is a reality.” (LASB)  Although Paul goes on to specifically instruct us to pray for kings, rulers and those in authority, the key point is that we are to pray for all people.  God’s plan and purpose is not limited to a certain few people but includes everyone everywhere. His plan of salvation is available to everyone in the whole world (John 3:16). And his deepest desire is, “all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (v.4 ESV).  Elsewhere we are told that He does not “want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2Pet 3:9 NIV84).  This is why we can and must pray for everyone we know and that are in our sphere of life. We are told that “The earnest prayer of a righteous person (made righteous by Jesus Christ, see 2Cor 5:21)  has great power and produces wonderful results.” (Jam 5:16 NLT).  Jesus taught us how we can pray for everyone, “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth (in all people on earth) as it is in heaven.” (Matt 6:10).  Whether and how they respond is not our responsibility.  Our responsibility is to pray and cooperate with God’s heart and desire for all people.
