ヨハネ 12:2-3 （新改訳JSS2017）　人々はイエスのために、そこに夕食を用意した。マルタは給仕し、ラザロは、イエスとともに食卓に着いていた人たちの中にいた。3一方マリアは、純粋で非常に高価なナルドの香油を一リトラ取って、イエスの足に塗り、自分の髪でその足をぬぐった。家は香油の香りでいっぱいになった。

多くの場合、私たちはマリヤとその豪華（無茶）なささげ物に焦点を当てますが、そこにおられたほとんどの人々は、ラザロをよみがえらせてくださったイエスに感謝を表し、上客として迎える晩餐を開いていました。一人一人自分の役割をはたしてイエスを重んじました。ラザロは主人役を務めていました。マルタはいつものとおり得意のおもてなしと給仕をしていました。そしてマリヤこの機会をとらえ用いて自分の心にあふれていた感謝と愛を現わし、ナルドの香油をイエスに注がれました。もちろん私たちはみな、最高をイエスに捧げるべきですが、自分にできること、ささげるものを他の人と比べてはなりません。私たちにできること、私たちの持っているものを持って、礼拝するのです。これこそ、イエスを喜ばせ、重んずることです。「ですから、兄弟たち、私は神のあわれみによって、あなたがたに勧めます。あなたがたのからだを、神に喜ばれる、聖なる生きたささげ物として献げなさい。それこそ、あなたがたにふさわしい礼拝です」（ローマ12:1 JSS2017）。「このように揺り動かされない御国を受けるのですから、私たちは感謝しようではありませんか。感謝しつつ、敬虔と恐れをもって、神に喜ばれる礼拝をささげようではありませんか。」（へブル12:28 JSS2017）。パウロもまたマケドニアの諸教会をほめてこのように言いました。「そして、私たちの期待以上に、神のみこころにしたがって、まず自分自身を主に献げ、私たちにも委ねてくれました」（２コリント 8:5 JSS2017）。私たちは最高のものをイエスに捧げるだけではなく、私たち自身のすべてをささげて礼拝すべきです。

Joh 12:2-3 NIV84  Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Observation

Often, we focus on Mary and her act of extravagant service, but the others were also all there to honor and bless Jesus.  The dinner was given in Jesus’ honor because of the amazing miracle of the raising of Lazarus.  Each played their part in serving and honoring. Lazarus hosted the meal; Martha did what she did best, served; and Mary found the opportunity to show her love and appreciation for Jesus in her extravagant expression of worship.  Yes, we should all give our best, but we should never compare ourselves with others in what we can or are able to do.  Just worship with what you have and give the best you able to do.  That is what honors and pleases Jesus. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” (Rom 12:1 NIV84).  “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” (Heb 12:28 NIV84).  Paul commended the churches of Macedonia because, “And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will.” (2Cor 8:5 NIV84).  We worship the Lord Jesus by offering not only what we have but who we are.
