２列王記 11:17（リビングバイブルJCB）　エホヤダは、主と王と民との間で、主の民となるという契約を結び、王と民との間でも契約を結びました。

コメント

エホヤダは大祭司でした。若きヨアシュを守り育てました。そして時が来たとき、ヨアシュをユダ王国の正当な王としてダビデの王座に座る者として立てました。従来通り神殿の柱のそばで王を油注ぎ、王冠をかぶらせました。アタルヤ、不正当な僭女王としてダビデ王座を乗っ取りましたが、「謀反だ！　反逆だ！」と叫びました、しかし、彼女こそ神に対して、ダビデ王座に対して謀反者でした。彼女が取り除かれ、始末されてから、人々は神と王に対して契約を結びました。また、王と民の間に契約を結びました。今日これは「憲法、立憲」と言います。それは神の律法に基づくものでした（申命記 17:14-18; １サムエル記 10:25 参照）。王というのは好き勝手に治め、権力をふるうことはできませんでした。王の責任と制限、また、民の責任と公認役目が指定されています。主なる神は秩序の神であり、この地上を人間の責任と権威にゆだねています。すべての国々も同じです。日本は立憲君主制というと制度として成り立っています。君主と民の間の契約に基づいています。しかし、最終的主権者は主なる創造主であることをおぼえておかなければなりません。「上に立つ権威に従いなさい。神がお立てになった権威だからです。神によらない権威はどこにもありません」（ローマ13:1 JCB）。ゆえに、私たちは主なる神の下でこれらの権威に服するだけではなく、その責任の置かれている者のために祈らなければなりません。さらに、私たちに与えられている公民の責任と役目を果たさなければなりません。

2Ki 11:17  Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.

Observation

Jehoiada, the High Priest, has guarded and raised the young Joash to this point.  Now the time has come to establish him as that true King of Judah to sit on the throne of David.  They have anointed and crowned young Joash by the Temple pillar, where this customarily occurred.  Athalia, the illegitimate queen who had usurped the throne cries “Treason” but she is the one who has committed treason against God and the Throne of David.  After she is disposed, the people unite to renew the covenant between the Lord, the King and the people. This would be based on the Law of the Lord (see Deut 17:14-18; 1Sam 10:25 etc.).  The king was not free to do anything he wanted but was to submit himself to the limits established by God. Also they made a covenant between the king and the people. Today we would call this a “constitution”, limiting and delineating the responsibilities of those set in leadership and those being ruled.  God is the God of Order and has given man the authority and responsibility to rule this earth; and the same in every nation. The USA is called a democracy, or more exactly “constitutional republic”, the people choose their leaders so in essence the final authority is with the people not the government or leaders.  Japan is a Constitutional Monarchy which is still a covenant between the king and the people. The ultimate authority who gives all authority is the Creator God of the Universe.  “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”  (Rom 13:1  NIV84)  Not only are we to pray for our leaders (2Tim 2:2) but also we are responsible before God and before our leaders to fulfill our civic duties given to us legally but ultimately by God.
