使徒の働き 15:11（新改訳JSS2017）　「私たちは、主イエスの恵みによって救われると信じていますが、あの人たちも同じなのです。」

教会の内で大きな議論が起きました。私たちはいかにして救われて神の前で義と認められるのか（正しい者として神に受け入れられるのか）。エルサレムの教会のある者（パリサイ派の人々で熱心に、厳しくモーセの律法を守ろうとしていた人々）は、異邦人（ユダヤ人ではない者）も割礼を受け、モーセの律法を守らなければならないと言い出しました。このことは大きな問題となり、エルサレムで会合が開かれ、熱く、深く論じられました。その時、ペテロが立ち上がり、神が自分をコルネリオの家に導き、そこで何が起きたかを思い出させました（使徒の働き10章参照）。その時、神は異邦人をもそのまま受け入れ、ユダヤ人に聖霊が注がれたと同じように異邦人にも注がれ、「私たちと彼らの間に何の差別もつけず、彼らの心を信仰によってきよめてくださったのです」（9節 JSS2017）とペテロは説明しました。後にパウロはガラテヤの諸教会にも書き送りました。「しかし、人は律法を行うことによってではなく、ただイエス・キリストを信じることによって義と認められると知って、私たちもキリスト・イエスを信じました。律法を行うことによってではなく、キリストを信じることによって義と認められるためです。というのは、肉なる者はだれも、律法を行うことによっては義と認められないからです」（ガラテヤ2:16 JSS2017）。本当に単純なのです。「なぜなら、もしあなたの口でイエスを主と告白し、あなたの心で神はイエスを死者の中からよみがえらせたと信じるなら、あなたは救われるからです。人は心に信じて義と認められ、口で告白して救われるのです」（ローマ 10:9-10 JSS2017）。

Observation

A major controversy arose in the church about how we are saved and made righteous before God. Certain members of the Jerusalem church who were Pharisees, strict observants of the Mosaic Law, insisted that if the Gentiles (non-Jews) were going to be a part of the church, they had to be circumcised and follow the Law of Moses.  The matter was intensely and deeply debated but Peter reminded them of what had happened when God led and directed him to Cornelius’ house (see Acts 10); God had accepted the Gentiles and made no distinction between them Jew or Gentile by pouring out the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles just as He had on the Jews.  The important issue was faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and that “it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we (Jews) are saved, just as they (Gentiles) are.”  Paul later wrote to the Galatian church and said, “(We) know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.” (Gal 2:15 NIV84). It is really quite simple, “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Rom 10:9 -10 NIV84)
