使徒の働き 17:24-25 （新改訳 JSS2017）この世界とその中にあるすべてのものをお造りになった神は、天地の主ですから、手で造られた宮にお住みにはなりません。また、何かが足りないかのように、人の手によって仕えられる必要もありません。神ご自身がすべての人に、いのちと息と万物を与えておられるのですから。

コメント

これまでのパウロのメッセージは主にユダヤ人と旧約聖書になじんでいる人々に対するものでしたが、ここで初めて全く違う会衆に語りかけています。ギリシャ人やローマ人の哲学者や思想家たちの集まりです。彼らは論じたり、最新のことがらを聞いたりするのが趣味です（21節参照）。パウロは万物と人間人類の創造者なる神を紹介して始まりました。この方はギリシャやローマの神々とは程遠い者で、人間からは何も与えられる必要のないお方でありますが、我々人間と和解することを願って働きかけられる神です。人間はこの創造者に背を向けたときに、代わりに様々な神々や人の手で作った偶像を造りだそうとしますが、真の神とは全く違うものです。この創造者なる神は「．．．そのような無知の時代を見過ごしておられましたが、今はどこででも、すべての人に悔い改めを命じておられます」（30節 JSS2017）。しかし、次に言ったことが彼らの考え方を乱しました。まず、必ず、全ての人は審判者の前に立ち、すべてのことの言い開きをしなければならないさばきの日がやってくること、そしてその審判者は神が立てた人である（へブル9:27も参照）。その人を証明するために死者のなかからよみがえらせたと宣言しました（31節参照）。そこである者はあざけり笑い始めました。ほかの人は、もっと聞きたいと言い出しました。すべてがイエス・キリストにかかっているのです。受け入れることもでき、拒絶することもできる。しかし、無視することはできない（ヨハネ 4:41; 1ヨハネ4:14参照）。

Act 17:24-25 NLT  “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since He is Lord of heaven and earth, He doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve His needs—for He has no needs. He Himself gives life and breath to everything, and He satisfies every need.

Observation

Until now all of Paul’s messages have been focused mainly on Jewish audiences and those somewhat familiar with OT Scripture.  Here for the first time he addresses a completely different audience, Greek and Roman philosophers and thinkers, who love to debate and listen to the newest ideas (see v.21)  Paul begins with the Creator of all things and of mankind.  He emphasizes that this God is unlike any Greek or Roman god and who does not need anything from man, but wants to reconcile man to himself.  In turning away from the Creator and Redeeming God man has replaced him with every sort of idol and god which is nothing like the one true God.  But “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.” (v. 30 NLT) His next point, is what completely messed with their minds.  First, there is a judgment day coming when every man with have to give an account of himself (see also Heb 9:27).  But the next thing he said, threw the whole assembly into confusion. The Creator God has appointed a certain Man to be that judge and proved it by raising him from the dead (see v.31). Some laughed and derided him. Others just said, we want to hear more. Everything hinges on what we do with Jesus. You can accept him; you can reject him, but you cannot ignore him. (See John 4:41; 1John 4:14)
