使徒の働き 22:7,8,10 （新改訳JSS2017） 私は地に倒れ、私に語りかける声を聞きました。『サウロ、サウロ、どうしてわたしを迫害するのか。』 8私が答えて、『主よ、あなたはどなたですか』と言うと、その方は私に言われました。『わたしは、あなたが迫害しているナザレのイエスである。』 10私が『主よ、私はどうしたらよいでしょうか』と尋ねると、主は私に言われました。『起き上がって、ダマスコに行きなさい。あなたが行うように定められているすべてのことが、そこであなたに告げられる』と。

パウロが現地の言語、ヘブル語で話し始めたとき、群衆は静まり返りパウロが自分のストーリーを語り始めたのを聞いてあげました（私たちも一人一人ストーリーがあります）。パウロは熱心なユダヤ教徒で、神の律法を厳しく守ることによって神を喜ばせようとしていました。しかし、人生を一変させた出会いをしました。イエスが現れて、尋ねました。「サウロ、サウロ、どうしてわたしを迫害するのか。」パウロは当然の質問で答えました。「主よ、あなたはどなたですか。」イエスが言いました。「わたしは、あなたが迫害しているナザレのイエスである。」パウロはこれまで、キリストの道に従っている者はユダヤ教を破壊し、律法を汚すものと考えていましたが、実はイエスこそが律法が指していたメシヤであったのです。そして、イエスはパウロにダバスコの町に入り、どうすればよいか教えてくれる者がいると言いました。パウロは生涯の使命を受けました。「それはあなたが、その見聞きした事につき、すべての人に対して、彼の証人になるためである」（15節 口語訳）。私たちはこれほどのドラマチックな体験をしなくても、キリストとの出会いはあります。そして同じように、私たちも見聞きしたことを証しする証人として任命されています。「あなたがたは、これらのことの証人となります」（ルカ24:48 JSS2017）。「全世界に出て行き、全ての造られあものに福音を宣べ伝えなさい」（マルコ16:15　JSS2017）。「聖霊があなたがたの上に臨むとき、あなたがたは力を受けます。そして、エルサレム、ユダヤとサマリアの全土、さらに地の果てまで、わたしの証人となります」（使徒の働き1:8 JSS2017）。私たちのストーリーはその証の一部です。

Act 22:7,8,10 ESV  And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ 8 And I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’ 10 And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.’

Observation

Paul begins to speak to the crowd in Hebrew, the native language; everyone quieted down and listened as Paul tells his story (We all have a story.)  Paul was a zealous Jew, wanting to please God by strictly keeping the Law.  But then he has an encounter that changes his life.  Jesus appears to him and asks, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”  Paul responds with the most obvious question, “Who are you Lord? Jesus tells him, “I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting” Paul had thought he was fighting against those who were corrupting the Law and would destroy Judaism, but found himself fighting against the very one that the Law pointed to.  Jesus then tells him to go into Damascus and he would be told what he should do.  He was told what his life mission would be, “You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.” (v.15) We might not have as dramatic of an experience but we all have an encounter with Jesus.  And he has commissioned us to witness to all men what we have seen and heard. “You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48 NIV84)  “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” (Mark 16:15 NIV84)  “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NIV84)  Our story is part of that witness.
