使徒の働き 24:25-26（リビングバイブルJCB）　25 しかし、話が正義と節制、それに、やがて来る審判のことだったのでこわくなり、「もう帰ってよい。また折りを見て話を聞こう」と言いました。26それからも時々、ペリクスはパウロを呼び出しては話し合いましたが、それというのも、パウロから金をもらいたい下心があったからです。

パウロはこのカイザリアの牢獄にさらに2年間の投獄が続きました。有罪とされる可能性があったからではなく、政治的思惑があったからです。「ペリクスはユダヤ人のきげんを損ねたくなかったので、パウロを捕らえたままにしておきました」（27節 JCB）。しかし、パウロの目的は牢獄が出ることではなく、あらゆる機会をとらえてキリストの福音を語ることでした。これは主がパウロのために前をもって言われた目的でした。「さあ、行きなさい。このパウロこそ、わたしの教えをイスラエル人だけでなく、世界中の人々や王たちに伝えるために、わたしが選んだ人です。 16彼には、わたしのために、どんなに苦しむことになるかを告げるつもりです」（使徒の働き 9:15-16　JCB）。ぺりクス総督も「この道（キリストに従う道の人々）についてかなり詳しく知っていた」（24:22 JSS2017）。そして、キリストに関してパウロのことばをもっと聞きたいと願って、くりかえし、呼ばれました。パウロは主イエスについて教え語る中で、「正義と節制、それに、やがて来る審判」について説得しようとしたとき、ぺりクスは恐ろしくなりました（怖がりました）。「今は帰ってよい。折を見て、また呼ぶことにする」と言いました。実は、これは聖霊が働きかけていた証拠です。「その方（聖霊）が来ると、罪について、義について、さばきについて、世の誤りを明らかになさいます」（ヨハネ16:8 JSS2017）。へブル書にはこのように書かれています。「そして、人間には、一度死ぬことと死後にさばきを受けることが定まっているように．．．」（へブル9:27 JSS2017）。続けてその解決も書かれています。「キリストも、多くの人の罪を負うために一度ご自分を献げ、二度目には、罪を負うためではなく、ご自分を待ち望んでいる人々の救いのために現れてくださいます」（へブル 9:28 JSS2017）。

Act 24:24-25 NLT  A few days later Felix came back with his wife, Drusilla, who was Jewish. Sending for Paul, they listened as he told them about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,” he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”

Observation

Paul remains in prison in Caesarea for more than two years, not because he is guilty or that they are not able to come to a conviction, but for political advantage.  “And because Felix wanted to gain favor with the Jewish people, he left Paul in prison.”  But Paul’s purpose and goal was not to get out of prison but to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to whomever and whenever he had the opportunity.  This is exactly the purpose the Lord Jesus had for him at this time. “Go, for Saul is My chosen instrument to take My message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. And I will show him how much he must suffer for My name’s sake.” (Acts 9:15-16 NLT).  Felix was familiar with “The Way” (see 24:22) and very fascinated with Paul’s message, so called for him and listened to him many times.  But Paul zeroed right in on where Felix was and “reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment,”  This alarmed and Felix because he was actually known for being a very corrupt governor.  His response was “Go away for now.  When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”  The Holy Spirit was working on him and convicting him. “When He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.” (John 16:8 NLT). Hebrews tells us, “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment…” (Heb 9:27 NLT)  The next verse also gives us the answer (solution), “…so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for Him.” (Heb 9:28 NLT)
