パウロはアグリパ王（これはヘロデアグリパ（使徒12章参照）の息子、ヘロデ大王（マタイ2章参照）の甥の息子）の前で弁論しています。ユダヤ人は多くの不正な訴えをしていますが、パウロはこれらがすべて、一点に絞られるとまとめています。それはイエス・キリストの死者からの復活です。復活の望みはユダヤ教教理の主な宗旨の一つでした。パウロは自分もこの望みを持って生きてきたと宣言しています。そして、イエス・キリストの復活はこのイスラエルの望みの成就であると主張しています。そこでパウロはアグリパ王と共にいた人たちに尋ねています。「神が死者をよみがえらせるということを、あなたがたは、なぜ信じがたいこととお考えになるのでしょうか。」コリントの教会に書き送った手紙の中で、パウロは言いました。「もし死者の復活がないとしたら、キリストもよみがえらなかったでしょう。14そして、キリストがよみがえらなかったとしたら、私たちの宣教は空しく、あなたがたの信仰も空しいものとなります。20しかし、今やキリストは、眠った者の初穂として死者の中からよみがえられました。21死が一人の人を通して来たのですから、死者の復活も一人の人を通して来るのです」（1コリント15:13-14，20-21 JSS2017）。使徒ペテロも言いました。「私たちの主イエス・キリストの父である神がほめたたえられますように。神は、ご自分の大きなあわれみのゆえに、イエス・キリストが死者の中からよみがえられたことによって、私たちを新しく生まれさせ、生ける望みを持たせてくださいました」（1ペテロ 1:3 JSS2017）。

Act 26:6-8 ESV  And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, 7 to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king! 8 Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?

Observation

Paul is giving his defense before King Agrippa (This is the son of Herod Agrippa (see Acts 12), and the great-nephew of Herod the Great (see Matt 2).)  Although the Jews have accused him of many things, Paul says, it all boils down to one central point, the resurrection of Jesus.  The hope of the resurrection is one of the key tenants of the Jewish faith, and Paul says this is the hope he has always had and now continues to live by.  The resurrection of Jesus is the fulfillment of this hope of Israel. Then he challenges King Agrippa and those listening to consider this, “Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?”  In writing to the church at Corinth, Paul says, “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.” (1Cor 15:13-14, 20-21 ESV) This is our greatest and most basic hope in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter declares, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1Pet 1:3 ESV)
