使徒の働き26:24-25（新改訳JSS2017）　パウロがこのように弁明していると、フェストゥスが大声で言った。「パウロよ、おまえは頭がおかしくなっている。博学がおまえを狂わせている。」 25パウロは言った。「フェストゥス閣下、私は頭がおかしくはありません。私は、真実で理にかなったことばを話しています。

パウロの弁論と証はフェストゥス総督にとってはあまりにも奇妙で、異様な話で、信じがたいく、パウロは正気とは思えないほどでした。しかし、パウロは確かな真実であると確証します。「まじめに真理を語っているだけでございます。」（JCB）と言いました。そしてアグリッパ王に呼びかけました。「王様は預言者たちを信じておられますか？」答えを待たずに、「信じておられることと思います。」と言いました（27節）。そこでアグリッパ王はすぐに反論しました。「おまえは、わずかな時間で私を説き伏せて、キリスト者にしようとしている」（28節）。これこそパウロの目的でありねらいですが、賢く答えました。「わずかな時間であろうと長い時間であろうと、私が神に願っているのは、あなたばかりでなく今日私の話を聞いておられる方々が、この鎖は別として、みな私のようになってくださることです」（29節 JSS2017）。パウロはコリントの教会にこのように説明しました。「18十字架のことばは、滅びる者たちには愚かであっても、救われる私たちには神の力です。23ユダヤ人はしるしを要求し、ギリシア人は知恵を追求します。24しかし、私たちは十字架につけられたキリストを宣べ伝えます。ユダヤ人にとってはつまずき、異邦人にとっては愚かなことですが、25ユダヤ人であってもギリシア人であっても、召された者たちにとっては、神の力、神の知恵であるキリストです」（1コリント1:18，23-25 JSS2017）人々が福音を聞いてからいつ応答するかは神の責任です。いつでもどこでも機会をとらえて福音を語り、証しするのは私たちの責任です。

Act 26:24-25 NLT  Suddenly, Festus shouted, “Paul, you are insane. Too much study has made you crazy!” 25 But Paul replied, “I am not insane, Most Excellent Festus. What I am saying is the sober truth.

Observation

Paul’s defense and testimony is so bizarre that to the Roman governor Festus it seemed like insane craziness.  But Paul assures him. “What I am say is the sober truth.”  He appeals to King Agrippa under who’s reign and that of his father Herod Agrippa, everything concerning Jesus, the apostles and the church has happened. He confronts King Agrippa, “Do you believe the prophets?” but doesn’t let him answer, “I know you do—” (v.27 NLT).  At this, King Agrippa quickly becomes defensive, “Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?” (v.28 NLT)  But this is exactly Paul’s goal and purpose and wisely responds, “That’s what I’m praying for, whether now or later, and not only you but everyone listening today, to become like me–except, of course, for this prison jewelry!” (v.29 MSG) Paul writes to the Corinthians, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…But we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” (1Cor 1:18, 23-25 NIV84) The timing is up to God. The responsibility of sharing the Good News is up to us.
