今日のことば

ヘブル　4:12-13（リビングバイブルJCB）　12神のことばは生きていて、力があります。それは鋭い刃のように切れ味がよく、心の奥深くに潜んでいる思いや欲望にまでメスを入れ、私たちの赤裸々な姿をさらけ出します。 13神は、人がどこにいようと、すべての人の心を見抜かれるお方です。神に造られたもので、神の目から隠れおおせるものは一つもありません。今も生きて、すべてを見抜かれる神の前に、私たちは裸のままさらけ出されているのです。私たちはこの方に対して、自分のなしたすべてのことを弁明しなければなりません。

神のことばはどれほど力あるものでしょうか？神のことばがこの世界と万物をすべて造りました（ヨハネ1:1‐3も参照）。また、神のことばはその万物の全体を保っているものです（へブル1:3参照）。このことばは私たちの内にも力強く働きます。私たちの思いと心の奥底まで現し、私達が全世界の審判者である主の前で私たちの全てを現にします。鏡のようです。時には私たちは鏡の前に立って自分の姿を見たくないこともあるでしょう。何か、現されるのではないかと恐れるかもしれません。神のみことばもそのような鏡です。しかし、普通の鏡とは違って、神のことばは私たちのあれのままを現すだけではなく、私達を造り変える力もあります。「神に喜ばれることは何かを思いながら、なすこと考えることすべての面で生き生きとした、全く新しい人となりなさい」（ローマ12:2 JCB）。だからパウロは進めます。「キリストのことばが、あなたがたのうちに豊かに住むようにしなさい」（コロサイ3:16 JSS2017）。神のことばは私たちの真の姿を現すだけではなく、御霊の働きと共に、私達をキリストの姿に変える力もあります（詩篇119:11,105も参照）。

Heb 4:12 NLT For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes, and He is the One to whom we are accountable.

Observation

How powerful is the Word of God?  It was the Word that created the heavens and the earth, everything that is seen in all creation (see John 1:1-3). His word also upholds or sustains the universe (see Heb 1:3 ESV).  This word also works powerfully in us.  It cuts through our thoughts and inner most being and reveals us before the Judge of all the things to whom we are accountable.  If we want to see where we stand with God, the Word of God will show us.  Sometimes we do not want to look in the mirror because we don’t like, or don’t think we will like what we see.  It is the same with the Word of God.  But unlike the mirror, it also has the power to change and transform us. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Rom 12:2 ESV)  Paul also admonishes us, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”  The Word of God not only shows us who we are and how we should be, but when we let his word dwell in us and work in us by the power of the Holy Spirit, it works to change us into the image we must be (see also Psa 119:11,105).
