エペソ 1:17-19 （新改訳 JSS2017）　どうか、私たちの主イエス・キリストの神、栄光の父が、神を知るための知恵と啓示の御霊を、あなたがたに与えてくださいますように。18また、あなたがたの心の目がはっきり見えるようになって、神の召しにより与えられる望みがどのようなものか、聖徒たちが受け継ぐものがどれほど栄光に富んだものか、19また、神の大能の力の働きによって私たち信じる者に働く神のすぐれた力が、どれほど偉大なものであるかを、知ることができますように。

コメント

これはエペソの聖徒たちのための祈りでありますが、私たちのための祈りでもあります。特に、パウロは主なる神（栄光の父）に二つのことを願っています。まず、知恵と啓示の霊が与えられるように祈ってます。この知恵と啓示の霊の目的は主なる神をもっと深く、もっと親密に知ることができるためです。また、もう一つの願いは、私達に対する神の驚くべき計画と目的を知ることです。その「神の召しにより与えられる望み」とは私たち「聖徒たちが受け継ぐものがどれほど栄光に富んだものか」を理解することです。もう一つパウロが加えて願っているのは私たちの内に働く「神の大能の力」がいかなるものであるかを知ることです。それはキリストを死者の中からよみがえらせて、天の御座にまで座らせた神の力です。アメージング。すごい！

Eph 1:17-19 NIV84  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Observation

This is Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians and also for us.  In particular Paul is asking the Lord God, “the Glorious Father” for two things, wisdom and revelations to know God better, and enlightenment to know the hope to which we have been called.  The purpose of wisdom and revelation is to know God better, deeper and more intimately.  The enlightenment he prays for is to know and understand God’s great and wonderful plan and purpose for us, “the hope to which he has called you” and to understand the incredible riches (abundance, treasure, wealth) of “his glorious inheritance in the saints”. Paul adds one more thing; that we might know and understand “the incomparably great power” that works in us who believe.  He goes on to explain it is the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him with the Lord God in the heavens. AMAZING!
