箴言 24:16 （新改訳JSS）正しい者は七たび倒れても、また起き上がるからだ。悪者はつまずいて滅びる。

「七転び八起き」は昔ながらの日本のことわざですが、実は由来は3000年前の賢者ソロモンの知恵の宝の一つです。しかし、「正しい人」がもう一度起きることができるのは行程施行でもなく、体力でも、弾力性でもありません。神がともにおられることを確信しているからです。「正しいからといって、すべての苦難を免れるわけではありません。しかし、主は正しい人をあらゆる苦しみから救い出（す）」（詩篇34:19 JCB）。「正しい人は、主の導きに従って歩みます。主はその一歩一歩をお喜びになるのです。24たとえ倒れても、それで終わりではありません。主がしっかり支えておられるからです」（詩篇37:23-24 JCB；）ミカ7:8-10も参照）。パウロはこのように言いました。「私たちは非常に激しい迫害を受け、打ちのめされて、もうこれ以上生き延びるのはむりかと思いました。 9死を覚悟し、自分の無力さを痛いほど思い知らされました。しかし、それがよかったのです。というのは、そんな状態の中で、何もかも神にお任せしたからです。死者を復活させることさえできるお方なのですから。 10やはり、神様は私たちを助け、恐ろしい死の危険から救い出してくださいました。これからも、何度でも、救い出してくださるに違いありません」（2コリント 1:8-10　JCB）。もう一度起き上がることができる望みはここにあります。「こんなにすばらしい恵みに対して、いったい何と言ったらよいでしょう。神が味方なら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょうか」（ローマ8:31 JCB）。

Observation

Though this proverb is somewhat well known today, it actually originates 3000 years ago; one of Solomon’s nuggets of wisdom.  But the reason they are able to get back up again is not because of their positive attitude and undauntable resilience.  It is because they know that God is with them and for them.  “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” (Psa 34:19 NIV84) “If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” (Psa 37:23-24 NIV84; see also Mic 7:8-10)  Paul said it this way, “We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.” (2Cor 1:8-10; see also 4:8-12; 11:23-27).  Here is the hope of why we can and will rise again: “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31 NIV84)
