Scripture
Col 2:16-17, 22-23 NLTÂ So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ Himself is that reality. 22 Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. 23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.
Observation
There were many rules and regulations in the OT covenant with Israel. But they were meant to lead us to Christ, to show us the God’s standard of righteousness. It was not meant to, and had no power to, make us righteous before God. Paul explains all of this in detail in the letter to the Galatian church. “Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.” (Gal 2:16 NLT) “So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” 12 This way of faith is very different from the way of law, which says, “It is through obeying the law that a person has life.” (Gal 3:11-12 NLT) “Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. 25 And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.†(Gal 3:24-25 NLT) “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.†(Gal 5:1 NLT) “But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. 6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.†(Gal 5:5-6 NLT)  “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”†(Gal 5:13-14 NLT) Jesus fulfilled the Law and gave us his righteousness.
How does this apply to you?
