Scripture
Col 3:1-2 NIV84Â Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Observation
No matter what our situation looks like we must remember what the true reality is. We have been raised with Christ and are seated with him in heavenly places (see also Eph 1:19-20; 2:5-6). When we recognize this, our life and outlook on life takes on a completely different perspective. Christ has overcome sin and death and risen from the grave. Not only that he is now seated at the right hand of the Sovereign Almighty God. But that’s not all. We are also seated with him in the place of victorious overcoming. It is so easy to get caught up in and only see the situation we seem to be in. Paul challenges us, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.†The Passion translation says, “Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.†And The Message Bible says, “Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ–that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.†Paul challenged the Corinthians too, “So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.†(2Cor 4:18 NLT).
How does this apply to you?
