箴言 27:19（新改訳JSS2017）　顔が、水に映る顔と同じであるように、人の心は、その人に映る。

時には私たちは自分の心の奥底にあることは誰にも見られないと思ったりします。しかし、わたくしたちの心に宿すものは必ずそのうちには公に表されます。この箴言は心にあるものは顔や生活を通して、反映されると教えています。イエスはこのように教えました。「人の内側から出るもの、それが問題です。 21肉欲、盗み、殺人、姦淫、 22貪欲、邪悪、あざむき、好色、ねたみ、悪口、高慢、あらゆる愚かさ、それらのものはみな、人の心の中からあふれ出ます。 23この内側から出て来るものが人を汚し、神にふさわしくない者とするのです」（マルコ7:20-23 JCB）。だらか箴言の最初の方でも警告しています。「何よりも、あなたの心を守りなさい。心は生活全体に影響を与えるからです」（箴言4:23 JCB）。心の奥底は誰も見えないと自分を欺いてはなりません。パウロも進めています。「すべて真実なこと、すべて尊ぶべきこと、すべて正しいこと、すべて清いこと、すべて愛すべきこと、すべて評判の良いことに、また、何か徳とされることや称賛に値することがあれば、そのようなことに心を留めなさい」（ピリピ 4:8 JSS2017）。ダビデはどう祈るべきかを教えています。「ああ神よ。私の心を探り、内面を調べ上げてください。あなたを悲しませるようなものがあるなら、教えてください。私が永遠のいのちへの道からそれないように　お導きください」（詩篇 139:23-24 JCB）。

Pro 27:19 MSG Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.

(NIV) As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. 

Observation

Sometimes we think that no one can see our heart and what we harbor there.  But whatever we allow to reside in our heart will eventually come out into the open.  This proverb tells us that whatever is hidden in our hearts will be reflected in our face and through our life.  Jesus said it this way, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” (Mark 7:20-23 NLT).  That is also why we are warned early on in Proverbs, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Pro 4:23 NLT).  Don’t fool yourself in thinking that no one else can see your heart or know what you keep there in its hidden recesses. Paul encourages us, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Phil 4:8 NLT)  Here is a good prayer to pray, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psa 139:23-24 NLT)
