マルコ 6:20 (JSS2017)　 それは、ヨハネが正しい聖なる人だと知っていたヘロデが、彼を恐れて保護し、その教えを聞いて非常に当惑しながらも、喜んで耳を傾けていたからである。

ヘロデはバプテスマのヨハネを聞くことは好きでしたが、自分の生き方を変えてり、悔い改めたりはしませんでした。ゆえに「当惑」しました。フェリックスもパウロの話を聞くことはとても興味がありました、しかし、自分に当てはめて、生き方を変えようとはしませんでした（使徒の働き24:24-26参照）。「 みことばを行う人になりなさい。自分を欺いて、ただ聞くだけの者となってはいけません。23　みことばを聞いても行わない人がいるなら、その人は自分の生まれつきの顔を鏡で眺める人のようです。24　眺めても、そこを離れると、自分がどのようであったか、すぐに忘れてしまいます。25　しかし、自由をもたらす完全な律法を一心に見つめて、それから離れない人は、すぐに忘れる聞き手にはならず、実際に行う人になります。こういう人は、その行いによって祝福されます」（ヤコブ1:22-25 JSS2017; マタイ7:26-27も参照）。神のことばを読み、聞きすることはすばらしいですが、自分の人生に、生き方に当てはめ、変えられなければ意味がない、効果はありません。みことばを聞いて、当てはめて、生きる者となりましょう。

Mar 6:20 NLT for Herod respected John; and knowing that he was a good and holy man, he protected him. Herod was greatly disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him.

Observation

Herod found listening to John the Baptist very intriguing. Yet he did not allow what he heard to change his thinking or lifestyle (Felix also like to listen to Paul but ultimately refused to repent and change, see Acts 24:24-26). “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” (Jam 1:22-25 NKJV; see also Matt 7:26-27) Let’s listen to the word of God and let it work a change in us.
