Scripture
Mar 6:20 NLT for Herod respected John; and knowing that he was a good and holy man, he protected him. Herod was greatly disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him.
Observation
Herod found listening to John the Baptist very intriguing. Yet he did not allow what he heard to change his thinking or lifestyle (Felix also like to listen to Paul but ultimately refused to repent and change, see Acts 24:24-26). “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.†(Jam 1:22-25 NKJV; see also Matt 7:26-27) Let’s listen to the word of God and let it work a change in us.
