Mar 15:32 NLT Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe Him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed Him.
Observation
Jesus was crucified between two men who are called thieves or bandits (see v.27). It is also the same word the historian Josephus uses to describe the revolutionaries that fought against the Roman occupation. It is highly likely that they were co-conspirators with Barabbas whom Jesus took his place. In one way these men were “heros†of the Jewish people who longed to overthrow the Romans. That is why they had no problem asking for the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.  Thus the Jewish leaders when they mocked and scorned Jesus, did not say anything against these “revolutionary rebelsâ€Â They thought that their “Messiah†would come from someone like them. So they taunted Jesus to come down from the cross and save himself and these other “freedom fighter†and they would believe in him. But their hearts were already hardened and proved that they would not believe no matter what Jesus did; they refused to believe even when Jesus rose from the dead (in his own timing) and left many convincing proofs (see Acts 1:3). We know from the other Gospels that one of these rebels did believe on Jesus, not because he saw any miraculous sign, or Jesus’ resurrection, but by faith he saw and accepted Jesus as the son of God, The King of God’s Kingdom, so he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.â€Â Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.†Paul said it this way, “This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.†(1Ti 1:15-16 NLT; see also Rom 10:9-11,13)
