1列王記 3:5 （リビングバイブルJCB）　するとその夜、神が夢のうちに現れ、「何なりと望むものを求めよ。そうすれば与えよう」と、ソロモンに語りました。

神があなたに「何なりと望むものを求めよ。そうすれば与えよう」と言われたら、あなたは何を求めますか？ソロモンはなんでも求めることができましたが、理解力と知恵と識別力を求めました。「どうか、民を正しく治め、善悪をはっきり見分けるために、すぐれた判断力と聞き分ける心とをお与えください」（9節 JCB）。2歴代誌に出来事が記録されていますが、このようにソロモンが求めたとあります。「どうか、この民を治めるのに必要な知恵と知識を私にお授けください」（２歴代誌 1:10 JCB）。しかし、実は、父ダビデがこのことをソロモンのために祈ったのです。「どうか主があなたに思慮と悟りを与えて、あなたをイスラエルの上に任命し、あなたの神、主の律法を守らせてくださるように」（１歴代誌 22:12 JSS2017; １歴代誌 29:19も参照）。私たちは子供や孫（子孫）のためにこのように祈ることは非常に大切です。イエスも約束しました。「またわたしは、あなたがたがわたしの名によって求めることは、何でもそれをしてあげます。父が子によって栄光をお受けになるためです。あなたがたが、わたしの名によって何かをわたしに求めるなら、わたしがそれをしてあげます」（ヨハネ14:13-14 JSS2017；ヨハネ15:16； マルコ11:24；　1ヨハネ5:14-15なども参照）。しかし、何を求めるかにも気を付けなければなりません。神の御心に添って、主の栄光のために何事をも求めることができます。主が最も喜んで与えてくださるのは知恵であり、御心を行い成就するためのものをすべて備えてくださいます。

1Ki 3:5 NLT That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”

Observation

What would you ask for if God said, “What do you want?  Ask, and I will give it to you!” Solomon could have asked for anything, but he asked for understanding, wisdom and discernment.  “Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern Your people well and know the difference between right and wrong.” (v.9 NLT)  In 2Chro which records the same incident, it says, “Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them (your people) properly.” (2Chro 1:10 NLT)  Actually, this was also the prayer of his father David for Solomon, “May the Lord give you wisdom and understanding that you may obey the Law of the Lord your God as you rule over Israel.” (1Chro 22:12 NLT; see also 1Chro 29:19).  It is very important to pray this prayer over our children and grandchildren.  Jesus also promised us, “You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it!” (John 14:13-14 NLT; see also John  15:16; Mark 11:24; 1John 5:14-15 etc.) But we must be careful what we ask for, and we are told to ask for anything according to his will and what would bring Him glory.  The thing that pleases the Father the most is when we seek wisdom and provision to fulfill the tasks and calling He has given us to do.  He will provide everything we need to do his will.
