１列王記 8:22,23,27 （新改訳JSS2017）　ソロモンはイスラエルの全会衆の前で、主の祭壇の前に立ち、天に向かって両手を伸べ広げて、23こう言った。「イスラエルの神、主よ。上は天、下は地にも、あなたのような神はほかにありません。あなたは、心を尽くして御前に歩むあなたのしもべたちに対し、契約と恵みを守られる方です。27それにしても、神は、はたして地の上に住まわれるでしょうか。実に、天も、天の天も、あなたをお入れすることはできません。まして私が建てたこの宮など、なおさらのことです。

我らの神はいかに偉大なお方でしょうか。我らの神はいかに誠実で真実なお方でしょうか。我らの神はいかに細かいところまで見守り、耳を傾けてくださるお方でしょうか。ソロモンはイスラエルの神の名のために壮大な輝かしい神殿を建てました。しかし、ソロモンも、この偉大な全能の神、全知の神、遍在の神、永遠の神を宿すほどの、またその威厳に相当する宮をだれも建てることはできないことを認めました。でも、それでも、何とか少しでも、その栄光と威厳に尊敬を示すものを建てようとしました。ソロモンは宣言しました。「主よ。上は天、下は地にも、あなたのような神はほかにありません」。しかし、それ以上に重大なのはこの神は契約の神であり、約束を守られる神であると信じました。これがソロモンの祈りです。「イスラエルの民が、この場所に向かって祈る時、いつでも願いを聞き届けてください。あなたがお住まいになる天で、その願いを聞き、彼らの罪を赦してください」（30節 JCB）。これはすべて神の契約と恵み（別訳：愛（恵）の契約）に基づいていると言いました。だから私たちもこの誰にも比べることのできない神に祈り、聞いてくださることができるのです。

1Ki 8:22,23,27 NIV84  Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven 23 and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. 27 “But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!

Observation

How big is our God?  How faithful and true is our God?  How attentive and responsive is our God?  Solomon has built a magnificent temple for the name of the God of Israel. He recognizes that there is no way that he or anyone else could build a temple big enough and magnificent enough to house the Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient and Eternal God.  And yet he seeks to honor and glorify the God of Israel, the God of Heaven and Earth in even a small way.  Solomon declares there is no other God like Him.  He fills all of heaven and earth.  But most importantly He is a God of covenant and keeps his promises.  This is Solomon’s prayer, “Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.” (v.30 NIV84).  All of this is based on His Covenant of Love (v. 22). That is why we also can pray to God who has no equal.
