Scripture
1Ki 8:56-58 NIV84Â “Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. 57 May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us. 58 May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers.
Observation
After dedicating the great temple of the Lord, Solomon turns to bless the people of Israel with these words. And he declares, “Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through His servant Moses.†We tend to forget that those promises were given over 400 years before. Sometimes we think God’s promises must be fulfilled immediately. God is not bound by time but he is bound to his word and his faithfulness. “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.†(2Pet 3:8-9 NLT) God has a much bigger plan than just our comfort and blessing, but his plan and timing are always the best and works everything together for our good (See Rom 8:28). “For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.†(Psa 33:4 NIV84) “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.†(Psa 145:13 NIV84) All He asks of us is to be faithful and true and to trust Him.Â
