 １列王記 12:15 (新改訳 JSS2017)　 王は民の願いを聞き入れなかった。かつて主がシロ人アヒヤを通してネバテの子ヤロブアムにお告げになった約束を実現しようと、主がそう仕向けられたからである。

神の主権制と人間の責任制のバランスを理解することは非常に重要です。神は私たちをロボットのように操る方ではありません。われわれ人間に自由意志を与えて、私たちに責任を負わせました。しかし、神は人間の自由意志を通して決断することをも用いて神の計画と目的を果すことができるお方です。私たちが正しく決断し、神の道に従うかどうかによって、私たちにそのよい結果にあずかるかどうかが影響されます。ソロモンは神の道を離れて、自分の知恵と方法に頼りました。神はその結果は国の分裂に至ると警告しました。そしてそのとおりになったのです。しかし、レハブアムの利己的な愚かな決断によって、その結果を生み出したのです(１列王記 11:29-37参照)。神の時代を超えた計画と目的を神ご自身が見守っておられました。そして、ときが満ちて、救い主なる神のみ子が遣わされました。そして、神はこの分裂したイスラエルとユダの王国は最終的にもう一度一つとなることを預言しました（エゼキエル37:15-28参照）。今日私たちはその預言の約束の成就を目の前にして見ています。「人の子よ。あなたは一本の杖を取り、その上に『ユダと、それにつくイスラエルの人々のために』と書き記せ。もう一本の杖を取り、その上に『エフライムの杖、ヨセフと、それにつくイスラエルの全家のために』と書き記せ。その両方をつなぎ、一本の杖とし、あなたの手の中で一つとなるようにせよ」（エゼキエル37:16-17 JSS2017）。イスラエルの民が全世界から集められて、自分の約束の地に連れ戻されています。「彼らに告げよ。『神である主はこう言われる。見よ。わたしはイスラエルの子らを、彼らが行っていた国々の間から取り、四方から集めて彼らの地に導いて行く。わたしが彼らを、その地、イスラエルの山々で一つの国とするとき、一人の王が彼ら全体の王となる。彼らは再び二つの国となることはなく、決して再び二つの王国に分かれることはない』（エゼキエル37:21-22 JSS2017）。まだ、主の働きは途中ですが、最終的イスラエルの全家がイエス・キリストをご自分のメシヤとして認め、立ち返ることとなります。神はその主権を働かせていますが、私たち人間は自分の責任を果たさなければなりません。

1Ki 12:15  So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfill his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

Observation

Understanding the balance between Divine Sovereignty and Human Responsibility is very important.  God does not control us like robots, he has given man a free will to chose his way, but God is able to work even through human choices to cause his will to be fulfilled.  Whether we partake of the results and benefits God’s sovereign purposes depends on whether we chose to walk in God’s way.  Solomon forsook God’s ways and walked in his own wisdom and ways. God warned that this would result in dividing the kingdom, which is exactly what happened.  But it was Rehoboam’s foolish and selfish decisions that caused it to play out the way God predicted it would (see 1King 11:29-37).  God’s plan and purposes for the ages were being set and watched over.  And in the fulness of time God sent his Son Jesus to be the messiah, to redeem all of mankind.  But God has also promised that he would once again make Israel and Judah (the two kingdoms into which they split here) into one nation again (see Ezek 37:15-28). We are seeing this being fulfilled right before our eyes in this day. “Son of man, take a stick and write on it, ‘For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph (the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’ 17 And join them one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.” (Ezek 37:16-17 ESV)  The return of Israel (and Judah, the Jews) to their own land is part of the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel and Judah.  “Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land. 22 And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms.”  It is still a work in progress the ultimate fulfillment of which will be when Israel as a nation acknowledges and turns to Jesus as their Messiah (see Zech 12:10; Rev 1:7). God is at work in his sovereignty but we must respond in our human responsibility.
