１列王記 17;3,4,9 「ここを去って東へ向かい、ヨルダン川の東にあるケリテ川のほとりに身を隠せ。4 あなたはその川の水を飲むことになる。わたしは烏に、そこであなたを養うように命じた。」9「さあ、シドンのツァレファテに行き、そこに住め。見よ。わたしはそこの一人のやもめに命じて、あなたを養うようにしている。」

コメント

主は名の知られていない、田舎の小さな町の人、エリヤを召、立ち上がらせました。イスラエルの民をご自分のところに引き戻す為に遣わされました。これからの働きのために、様々な状況を通して訓練しようとしています。アハブ王に主の言葉をまず伝えました。「私が仕えているイスラエルの神、主は生きておられる。私のことばによるのでなければ、ここ数年の間、露も降りず、雨も降らない」（1節）。それから小さな小川に行って、そこで主がカラスを用いて養ってくださると約束しました。しかし、小川が枯れたときに隣の外国のシドンにある小さな田舎町のやもめの所に遣わしました。そこで神はエリヤとそのやもめと家族を奇跡的に養いました。エリヤも主のことばを信じ従いましたが、やもめもエリヤとエリヤによる主のことばを信じなければなりませんでした。そうしたらその厳しい、不可能に見える状況の中で主は奇跡的に養い守りました。これこそ私たちの主権者なる神です。だからペテロも勧めています。「ですから、あなたがたは神の力強い御手の下にへりくだりなさい。神は、ちょうど良い時に、あなたがたを高く上げてくださいます。あなたがたの思い煩いを、いっさい神にゆだねなさい。神があなたがたのことを心配してくださるからです」（１ペテロ 5:6-7 JSS2017）。

1Kings 17:3,   “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4 You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 9  “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” 

Observation

God calls and raises up an unknown man from an insignificant town on the east side of the Jordan river.  But God had a mission and work for him to do to bring Israel back to the True God of Israel.  The Lord puts him through many difficult and even impossible situations to train and equip him for the work he is going to do.  After delivering his first word from the Lord to King Arab (“There will be no rain until I say so.” See v.1), the Lord sends him to a small brook where He promises to feed and provide for him with ravens bringing him food.  When the creek dries up, the Lord sends him to Zarephath, a small town in Sidon a foreign nation (also where Queen Jezebel and Baal worship is from).  There the Lord promises to provide for him by a widow and her family. Because the widow believed and trusted Elijah God caused her handful of flour and jug of oil to never run out while the famine continued.  Elijah trusted and obeyed God even though it was humbling.  The widow believed Elijah’s word and trusted the Word of the Lord.  The result was God provided and cared for them even in dire circumstances.  “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1Pet 5:6-7 NKJV)
