1列王記 18:3-4 (新改訳JSS 2017）アハブは宮廷長官オバデヤを呼び寄せた。オバデヤは主を深く恐れていた。4 かつてイゼベルが主の預言者たちを殺したときに、オバデヤは百人の預言者たちを救い出し、五十人ずつ洞穴の中にかくまい、パンと水で彼らを養ったのである。

アハブは邪悪な王であり、その女王イザベルはすべての主の預言者たちを絶滅しようとしましたが、アハブ王の宮廷長官オバデアは主に忠実でありました。アハブ王に高く信頼されていたようですが、オバデヤは自分の命もかけて、主の預言者たちを100人もかくまい養ってあげました。神はエリヤに自分の身を明かし、主のことばによってこれから雨が降ると伝えるように命じました。エリヤが最初に出会ったのはオバデヤでしたが、アバブ王に神からのメッセージを伝えるように言いつけました。神は御心を成し遂げるために、いつもあらゆるところにご自分のしもべたちを配置しています。ファラオの元にヨセフを置きました。バビロンやアッシリヤ帝国にダニエルを置かれました。神が私達を如何なるところに置かれていても、私達はそこで忠実に主に使えなければなりません。主権者なる神は全てを働かせてくださいますが、私たちは誠実である事を求めておられます。「わたし自身、あなたがたのために立てている計画をよく知っている──主のことば──。それはわざわいではなく平安を与える計画であり、あなたがたに将来と希望を与えるためのものだ。12 あなたがたがわたしに呼びかけ、来て、わたしに祈るなら、わたしはあなたがたに耳を傾ける。13 あなたがたがわたしを捜し求めるとき、心を尽くしてわたしを求めるなら、わたしを見つける」（エレミヤ 29:11-13 JSS2017)。

1Kings 18:3-4 ESV And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly, 4 and when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water.)

Observation

Even though Ahab was a wicked king and his queen Jezebeel had tried to kill all the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah who was a faithful servant of the Lord, was an official in King Ahab’s  court.  He seems to be the main administrator for King Ahab’s house and highly trusted by Ahab.  Obadiah had even risked his life to preserve 100 prophets of the Lord.  God tells Elijah to go show himself to Ahab and tell him that he is going to make it rain.  Elijah first meets Obadiah and gives him a message to relay to Ahab. God always has his servants in every place to work his plan an purposes. God raised up Joseph to work in Pharaoh’s courts.  He placed Daniel in the Babylonian and Assyrian courts.  It does not matter where God places us, we must learn to be faithful to the Lord.  He will work out everything according to his will but needs us to be faithful.   “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jer 29:11-13 ESV)
