Scripture
1Kings 20:13 ESV And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the LORD.â€Â
Observation
A great army of the enemy has come against Israel; 32 kings and their armies. Even though Ahab, king of Israel was a wicked king, the Lord is giving him one more chance to see that the Lord God of Israel, is the only God. A prophet comes to Ahab and tells him, “Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the Lord.â€Â God’s heart is to turn his people back to himself; that was the purpose of the confrontation on Mt. Carmel, and now the Lord is giving Ahab and Israel one more chance to see that the Lord is actually a good God and has good plans for them. The Lord even gives Ahab the battle plan (see v.14-15). God gives Ahab and Israel a great victory which they could have only gotten by God’s might hand with them (see v.20-21). The Syrians came to this conclusion: Israel’s God is a God of the hill country, “Their gods are gods of the hills, and so they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.†(v.23 ESV). We will see how that works out for them next. Again we must never forget, “If God has determined to stand with us, tell me, who then could ever stand against us? †(Rom 8:31 TPT)
