１列王記 20:27-28 （リビングバイブルJCB）　イスラエル側も全軍を集め、装備を固めて戦場に向かいました。しかし、アフェクを埋め尽くしているシリヤの大軍に比べて、イスラエル軍は二つの小さなやぎの群れのようにしか見えませんでした。 28その時、一人の神の人（預言者）がイスラエルの王に近づき、主のことばを伝えました。「シリヤ人が、『イスラエルの神は山の神で、平地の神ではない』と言うので、わたしはあなたを助けて、この大軍を負かそう。そうすればあなたも、わたしこそ神だと認めるようになるだろう。」

コメント

もう一度、アラム人たちはイスラエルの神、主は、他の神々同様、地域や民族の神と勘違いしていました。「イスラエルの神は山の神で、平地の神ではない』と言うので、わたしはあなたを助けて、この大軍を負かそう。そうすればあなたも、わたしこそ神だと認めるようになるだろう。」しかし、この戦いはイスラエルやアハブや、アラム人に関するものではなく、イスラエルの神はいかなるものであるかを表すためのものでした。「最強の軍備を誇る軍隊でも、王を救えるわけではありません。力だけでは、誰ひとり救うことはできません。勇ましい軍馬も、勝利を保証してはくれません。力が救いとはならないのです」（詩篇33:16-17 JCB；詩篇20:6-9も参照）。主なる神は数えきれないほどの大軍に対して、ギデオンの300人を持っても勝利をもたらすことができる方です（士師記 6-7章参照）。それでも、アハブは自分勝手にふるまうことができると思っていました。主が滅ぼすために手渡された、イスラエルの神の侮った、ベン・ハダドと平和条約を結びました。「世を愛することは神に敵対することだと分からないのですか。世の友となりたいと思う者はだれでも、自分を神の敵としているのです」（ヤコブ4:4 JSS2017）。

1Ki 20:27-28 NIV84  When the Israelites were also mustered and given provisions, they marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped opposite them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the countryside. 28 The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the LORD.'”

Observation

Once again the Arameans think that the God of Israel is like any other gods.  “Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the LORD.”  This had nothing to do with Israel, Ahab or the Arameans, it had everything to do with showing who the God of Israel is. “No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.” (Psa 33:16-17 NIV84; see also Psa 20:6-9). God even used Gideon’s 300 men to defeat a vast army (see Judg 6-7).  But the Ahab still thinks he can make his own choices and does not follow the word of the Lord.  He even makes a treaty with Ben-Hadad, whom God had just delivered into his hands because they had defied the God of Israel.  “Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (Jam 4:4 ESV)
