１列王記 20:42 （新改訳 JSS2017）　彼は王に言った。「主はこう言われる。『わたしが聖絶しようとした者をあなたが逃がしたので、あなたのいのちは彼のいのちの代わりとなり、あなたの民は彼の民の代わりとなる。」

この話は理解しがたいところもありますが、私たちに教えてくれるのは主のことばに従うことは真剣なことであるということです（話全体を読んでみてください 35-43節参照）。これは旧約の律法時代であることを忘れてはいけませんが、その原則は私たちにも当てはめられます。主のことばに聞き従うこと、または不従順には結果と結末があるということです。イエスはこのたとえをもって自分のことばを聞いて従う重要性を教えました。「ですから、わたしのこれらのことばを聞いて、それを行う者はみな、岩の上に自分の家を建てた賢い人にたとえることができます。25雨が降って洪水が押し寄せ、風が吹いてその家を襲っても、家は倒れませんでした。岩の上に土台が据えられていたからです。26また、わたしのこれらのことばを聞いて、それを行わない者はみな、砂の上に自分の家を建てた愚かな人にたとえることができます。27雨が降って洪水が押し寄せ、風が吹いてその家に打ちつけると、倒れてしまいました。しかもその倒れ方はひどいものでした」（マタイ 7:24-27 JSS2017）。

Observation

This is a difficult story to understand, except to help us know the seriousness of obeying the word of the Lord (read this whole section v.35-43).  The setting is in the OT but the principle still applies to us.  There are consequences to obeying or disobeying the word of the Lord.  Jesus told the story of the wise and foolish builders to show us the importance of not only hearing but obeying the word of the Lord.  “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matt 7:24-27 ESV)
