1列王記 22:42-43; 51-53 （新改訳JSS2017）　ヨシャファテは三十五歳で王となり、エルサレムで二十五年間、王であった。彼はその父アサのすべての道に歩み、そこから外れることなく、主の目にかなうことを行った。しかし、高き所は取り除かなかった。民はなおも、その高き所でいけにえを献げたり、犠牲を供えたりしていた。51-53 アハブの子アハズヤは、ユダの王ヨシャファテの第十七年にサマリアでイスラエルの王となり、二年間イスラエルの王であった。彼は主の目に悪であることを行い、．．．彼はバアルに仕え、それを拝み、彼の父が行ったのと全く同じように行って、イスラエルの神、主の怒りを引き起こした。

コメント

二人の王が対照的に並べられています、ヨシャパテとアハズ。ヨシャバテは決して完璧な歩みをされたのではありませんが、心は主に向けられて、正しい道を選び歩もうとしました。対照的にアハズは父アハブの悪の道をそのまま歩み続けて、主の怒りを引き起こしました。私たちの前には良い道、主に従う道と、悪の道、神の道に背く歩みを選ぶことができます。その結果も全く違います。みことばを通して、この二つの道が私たちの前に置かれています。「悪を離れて　善を行い　平和を求め　それを追い続けよ」（詩篇34:14 JSS2017; 詩篇 37:27も参照）。「熱心に善を求める者は恵みを慕い求める。 悪を求める者には悪が来る」（箴言 11:27 JSS2017）。「だれでも、広く歩きやすい道が正しい道と考えますが、それは死に通じる道です」（箴言14:12 JCB）。「私は今日、あなたがたに対して天と地を証人に立てる。私は、いのちと死、祝福とのろいをあなたの前に置く。あなたはいのちを選びなさい。あなたもあなたの子孫も生き、あなたの神、主を愛し、御声に聞き従い、主にすがるためである。まことにこの方こそあなたのいのちであり、あなたの日々は長く続く。あなたは、主があなたの父祖、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに与えると誓われたその土地の上に住むことになる」（申命記 30:19-20 JSS2017；箴言2:20; エレミヤ 6:16も参照）。

1Ki 22:43  He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD. Yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

1Ki 22:52-53  He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 53 He served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger in every way that his father had done.                                                                                                          

Observation

Two kings are contrasted here; Jehoshaphat son of Asa and Ahaziah son of Ahab.  Jehoshaphat was not perfect but scripture records, “He walked in the way of Asa his father…doing what was right in the sight of the Lord.” In contrast Ahaziah “did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the ways of his father (Ahab).  We can choose to do good and walk in the right paths of the Lord or we can choose to do evil and walk in the paths of wickedness (against all of God’s ways).  The results are equally variant.  “Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” (Psa 34:14 ESV; see also Psa 37:27).  “Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it.” (Pro 11:27 ESV) “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Prov 14:12 ESV)  “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, 20 loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” (Deut 30:19 ESV). “So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.” (Prov 2:20 ESV see also Jer 6:16).
