１ペテロ 3:15-16（新改訳JSS2017）　むしろ、心の中でキリストを主とし、聖なる方としなさい。あなたがたのうちにある希望について説明を求める人には、だれにでも、いつでも弁明できる用意をしていなさい。ただし、柔和な心で、恐れつつ、健全な良心をもって弁明しなさい。そうすれば、キリストにあるあなたがたの善良な生き方をののしっている人たちが、あなたがたを悪く言ったことを恥じるでしょう。

私たちの信仰を破壊しようとするこの敵対する世の中でいかに生きるべきかをペテロは教えてくれています。私たちが真理と福音（グッド・ニュース）の希望と救いを持っているものです。この希望な今のためのものでもあり、将来の希望でもあります。私たちの信仰と希望について説明を求められるとき、明確などおりの通った説明をもって答えるべきだと言っています。しかし、これは柔和な心で、良い（きよめられた）良心に立って、優しく、親切に、相手も尊重しながら、答えるべきだと言っています。ペテロが教えているのは次のことです。1）まず私たちの生活において、キリストを主としてあがめなければなりません。2）いつでも、求められるときに私たちのこの希望について明確な説明をしなければなりません。3）きよい（妨げられない）良心を常に保ち正しく生きて行かなければならない。「子どもたちよ。口先だけで人を愛するのではなく、真実をこめて愛し、実践によって神の愛を示そうではありませんか。そうすれば、自分が神の側に立っていることを強く確信し、主の前に平安があるのです」（1ヨハネ 3:18-19 JCB）。

1Pe 3:15-16 (NLT) Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. 16  But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

(AMP)  But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully. [Isa. 8:12, 13.] 16 [And see to it that] your conscience is entirely clear (unimpaired), so that, when you are falsely accused as evildoers, those who threaten you abusively and revile your right behavior in Christ may come to be ashamed [of slandering your good lives].

Observation

Peter instructs us how to live in a hostile world that wants to destroy and annihilate our faith.  But we are the ones with the truth and the Good News of hope and salvation.  We have this hope in us both present and future.  When we are attacked for our faith, we are to be ready to give an clear and logical answer.  Peter also cautions us to do so with a gentle, courteous and respectfully way.  Another very important thing is to always have an entirely clear (unimpaired) conscience that we can stand solidly on.  Once again, Peter tells us 1) Worship and honor Christ as Lord in our life. 2) Be ready to give a clear and logical answer to those who ask about our hope. 3) Keep a clear and unimpaired conscience because of our good and righteous living.  “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.  Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.” (1John 3:18-19 NLT)
