ペテロは最後の思いと注意を語っています。「身を慎み」の言語の意味には、覚める、特に、酔いから覚めるが含まれています。気が紛らわせるようなものがないように注意する。これはイエスも注するように警告しました。主人の帰りを待っているしもべたちに対するようにとたとえを話しました（ルカ12:45-46; 21:34,36参照）。気を研ぎらせる、「眉に唾を付ける」など。酒などは気を紛らわせるだけでなく、判断力も鈍らせます。そうならないように気を付けるようにと注意している。さらに、加えて、「目を覚ましていなさい」と警告しています。イエスも同じことを言いました（マタイ25:3；マルコ14:28； ルカ21:34など参照）。なぜなら、私たちには鋭い敵がいて、彼は獲物を取得するためにねらいを定めています。彼はただ、盗んだり、殺したり、滅ぼしたりするために来られます（ヨハネ10:10参照）。私たちは堅く立って、対抗しなければなりません（エペソ6:10-11も参照）。しかし、自分の力でこれをなそうとするのではありません。ペテロは続けて言っています。「あなたがたをキリストにあって永遠の栄光の中に招き入れてくださった神ご自身が、あなたがたをしばらくの苦しみの後で回復させ、堅く立たせ、強くし、不動の者としてくださいます」（10節 JSS2017）。そして、最後に私たちのためにこのように祈っています。「神の御支配（権威と力と統治）が世々限りなくありますように。アーメン」（11節 JSS2017と詳訳聖書）。だから私たちは目を覚まし、気をゆるまず、見張っていなければなりません。そして、全能の主権者なる主イエスといつも共にいてくださることを忘れてはなりません。

Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Observation

Peter gives his final thoughts and cautions.  “Be sober! Be alert and watchful!” This is the same that Jesus warned and instructed the disciples with the illustration of the servants waiting for the master’s return (see Luk 12:45-46; 21:34,36).  Have your wits about you and let nothing dull your senses (as in not becoming drunk, but be sober.)  Jesus also warned to us to be watchful (Matt 25:13; Mark 14:28; Luk 21:34).  Here is why, we have an enemy (adversary, the devil) constantly prowling around to catch us like prey and devour us (he only comes to steal, kill and destroy).  We are to resist (stand firm and withstand) him (see Eph 6:10-11).  But we are not to try to do this just in our own strength.  Peter goes on to say, “Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen, and settle you.” (v.10 AMP).  And he closes his prayer for us by saying, “To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever. Amen (so be it).” (v. 11 AMP).  We are to be sober, alert and watchful, but remember that the Almighty, Sovereign Lord Jesus to right with us.
