２列王記 3:17-18（新改訳2017）　主がこう言われるからです。『風を見ず、大雨を見なくても、この涸れた谷には水があふれる。あなたがたも、あなたがたの家畜も、動物もこれを飲む。』　これは主の目には小さなことです。主はモアブをあなたがたの手に渡されます。

我らの主なる神はどれほど大きく、偉大な方でしょうか？私たちは主なる神をどのように見ているでしょうか？もちろん、主は全能なる神なので不可能なことはありません。いかなることをも私たちのために成すことのできる方です（エレミヤ 32:17,27; ルカ1:37； エペソ3:20 など参照）。しかし、私たちの知識から、敬虔から神を制限することもあります、思いをはるかに超えた方であり、そのはかりごとも私たちの思いよりもはるかに大きいものなのに。神の御計画と目的は時を、歴史を超越し、私たちの人生も永遠をも超えるものです。この箇所で、主なる神は無から水を生み出しました。雨も、雲も、風もないのに、突然水が現れて、彫るように命じられた溝を完全に満たしました（16節参照）。また、これが敵を惑わし、待ち伏せていた彼らのところにおびき出しました。最終的に敵は敗れました。主はいつも新しい方法で奇跡的な御業をなされます。毎回違います。しかし、これは主が後に約束されたことを伏線しています。「先のことに心を留めるな。昔のことに目を留めるな。19 見よ、わたしは新しいことを行う。今、それが芽生えている。あなたがたは、それを知らないのか。必ず、わたしは荒野に道を、荒れ地に川を設ける。20 野の獣、ジャッカルや、だちょうも、わたしをあがめる。わたしが荒野に水を、荒れ地に川を流れさせ、わたしの民、わたしの選んだ者に飲ませるからだ。21わたしのためにわたしが形造ったこの民は、わたしの栄誉を宣べ伝える」（イザヤ43:18-21 JSS2017）。

2Ki 3:17-18 NIV84  For this is what the LORD says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink. 18 This is an easy thing in the eyes of the LORD; he will also hand Moab over to you.

Observation

How big and mighty is our Lord God? How do we see the Lord God? Actually there is no question that He is Almighty and can do anything he wants and show himself powerful on our behalf (see Jer 32:17,27; Luke 1:37; Eph 3:20 etc.).  But it is so easy to limit God to our understanding and experience, even though He is so much bigger, and his plans are so much bigger.  His plan and purpose is also so much bigger and overarching over all of time and history and over our whole life and eternity.  Here God makes water appear from apparently nowhere, there is no rain or clouds or storm, the water just appears and fills the ditches that the prophet instructed these armies to dig (see v.16).  It also became the trap to draw the enemy into ambush and final defeat (see v. 20-24). The Lord always seems to do miracles in new and different ways than he ever had in the past.  This is also a foreshadowing and reminder of what he has promised to do: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. 20 The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, 21 the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.” (Isa 43:18-21 ESV)
