２列王記 10:16（新改訳JSS2017）　「私と一緒に来て、主に対する私の熱心さを見なさい」と言った。エフーは彼を自分の戦車に乗せ（た）。

熱心さ、熱意は正しいことのためであればよいことです。しかし、熱意は間違った方向に行けば、破壊的なものとなります。私たちの熱意は正しい方向に向けられ、聖書的な範囲の中にあることが非常に重要です。エフーはアハブ王とその家に対する主のことばを実行するに非常に熱心でした。そこで少し混乱があるようです。エフーはユダの王とその家族のものまで殺しました。これは主のことばを超えて行き過ぎたのではないかと思っている人がいますが（13-14節）、アハズヤとその家族はアタルヤとの結婚によって、アハブの家と結ばれたのです（1列王記19:7-10参照）。エフーは主のことばに従ってアハブとその家全体を根絶やしにしました（正しい、肝心なアタルヤを逃した結果、ユダにおいて、ダビデの家が断ち切られる寸前まで行きました、2列王記11章参照）。また、イスラエルにおいてバアル崇拝をも滅ぼしつくしました（18-27節参照）。問題はすべての偶像礼拝をとりのぞきませんでした。　ヤロブアムの金の子牛は取り除けられませんでした（31節参照）。イエスが神殿（神の家）をきよめた時、弟子たちは預言のことばを思い出しました。「あなたの家を思う熱心が私を食い尽くす」と書いてあるのを思い起こした」（ヨハネ2:17 JSS2017）。サウロ（後のパウロ）もユダヤ教の指導者と多くの民は律法に熱心でしたが、行き過ぎていて、間違った方針でありました。みことばの中で励まされています。「熱心で、うむことなく、霊に燃え、主に仕え（る）（ローマ12:11 口語訳）。また、「いつも、良いことについて熱心に慕われるのは、良いことである」（ガラテヤ 4:18 口語訳）。熱心に主に仕えましょう。みことばを行いまもるために熱心でありましょう。ただし、神のみことばの範囲の中において。

2Ki 10:16  Jehu said, “Come with me and see my zeal for the LORD.” Then he had him ride along in his chariot.

Observation

Zeal for the right reason is good.  But if zeal is misguided it can cause much damage.  It is very important to guide and put biblical boundaries on our zeal, what the Word says we should be zealous for.  Jehu was zealous in carrying out the word of the Lord against Ahab, Jezebel and their house.  There is some confusion as to why Jehu killed Ahaziah (who was king of Judah) and some of his family, thinking it goes beyond the word of the Lord (see v.13,14).  However, Ahaziah and his family had aligned themselves with Ahab’s family by marriage to Athalia.  Jehu killed anyone associated with and aligned with Ahab. He completely fulfilled the word of the Lord to Elijah (to destroy the whole house of Ahab, not just family but anyone associated with it; see 1King 9:7-10).  He also destroyed and wiped-out Baal worship and worshippers (see v.18-27).  The problem was he did not remove all idolatry but kept the Golden Calves of Jeroboam (see 2Kings 10:31).  We know that when Jesus cleansed them Temple, his disciples remembered the OT prophetic word, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” (John 2:17 NIV84). Saul (later Paul) and many of the Jewish people and leaders were zealous for the law of the Lord but was missed placed and misdirected.  We are told, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Rom 12:11 NIV84).  And, “It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good.” (Gal 4:18 NIV84) Let’s be zealous for the Lord and for his word but, be careful that our zeal does not go beyond the boundaries of the Word of God.
