２列王記 11:12（新改訳JSS２０１７）　エホヤダは王の子を連れ出し、王冠をかぶらせ、さとしの書を渡した。こうして人々は彼を王と宣言し、彼に油を注ぎ、手をたたいて「王様万歳」と叫んだ。

アハブとイゼベルの娘アタルヤはあと少しでダビデの家系を消し去るに成功するところでした。息子のアハズヤ王がエフーによって殺されたときに、彼女は王権を握りました。そればかりか、王家のものをすべて殺そうとしました。しかし、一人だけ、王の子どもで生まれたばかりのヨアシュは隠され、守られました。大祭司エホヤダは彼を主の神殿にかくまい、６年間守りました。七年目にヨアシュを連れ出し権利者の王として油注ぎ、みなの前に立たせました。神はダビデ王に、彼の子孫はメシヤ王まで続くと約束しました。ヨアシュが守られただけではなく、イエス・キリストまでダビデの子孫が守られました。これは、神の敵であるサタンがメシヤの血筋を断ち切ろうと狙った最初でも、最後でもありませんでした。しかし、この時にも見られるように、神の御手が延ばされ、守り、神の計画と目的が成就するために働かれたことを見ます。「ユダの家の中の逃れの者、残された者は、下に根を張り、上に実を結ぶ。エルサレムから残りの者が、シオンの山から、逃れの者が出て来るからである。万軍の主の熱心がこれを成し遂げる」（イザヤ37:31-32 JSS2017）。主に信頼するものには主は御手を置かれます。神の約束を見ましょう。「ですから、同じように今この時にも、恵みの選びによって残された者たちがいます」（ローマ 11:5 JSS2017）。「あなたがたがキリストのものであれば、アブラハムの子孫であり、約束による相続人なのです」（ガラテヤ3:29JSS2017）。

2Kings 11:12 NIV84 Jehoiada brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him; he presented him with a copy of the covenant and proclaimed him king. They anointed him, and the people clapped their hands and shouted, “Long live the king!”

Observation

The daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, Athalia almost succeeded in wiping out the Davidic kingly lineage.  When her son Ahaziah was killed by Jehu, she takes over the kingship of Judah and kills all the other royal descendants and family.  However, one son, Joash is hidden away and preserved.  No matter how bad it gets, God always has a remnant and a plan.  The High Priest Jehoiada, keeps Joash at the Temple for 6 years and in the seventh year, brings him out to anoint and set him as the rightful king of Judah.  God had promised King David a kingly lineage that would lead to the Messiah, the King who would sit on David’s throne.  Not only was Joash preserved but the royal lineage of David was preserved all the way to Jesus Christ, Son of David and Messiah, King of Israel.  This was not the first time nor the last time Satan tries to take out the Messianic line, but we again see that God’s hand is at work to preserve and to bring his plan and purpose to complete fruition. “Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” (Isa 37:31-32 NIV84).  The Lord also keeps his hand upon us as we put our trust in him. Here is God’s promise, “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” (Rom 11:5 NIV84) “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Gal 3:29 NIV84)
