２列王記　14:24，28（新改訳 JSS2017）　彼は主の目に悪であることを行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤロブアムのすべての罪から離れなかった。28ヤロブアムについてのその他の事柄、彼が行ったすべてのこと、彼が戦いであげた功績、すなわち、かつてユダのものであったダマスコとハマテをイスラエルに取り戻したこと、それは『イスラエルの王の歴代誌』に確かに記されている。

コメント

ヤロブアム二世（エフーの曾孫）は良い王様ではありませんでした。「彼は主の目に悪であることを行い」とあります。しかし、彼の治世において、イスラエルは経済的にも、権力的にも栄えました。神はアミタイの子ヨナ（ヨナ書を書いた預言者）を通しても、神は祝福を約束しました。祝福と繁栄は必ずしも、私たちが主の道に歩み正しいものであるからではなく、神は良いお方で、恵み深い神であることを示すためです。その目的は私たちを神に立ち返らせ、主の道に歩ませるためです。「それとも、神のいつくしみ深さがあなたを悔い改めに導くことも知らないで、その豊かないつくしみと忍耐と寛容を軽んじているのですか。5あなたは、頑なで悔い改める心がないために、神の正しいさばきが現れる御怒りの日の怒りを、自分のために蓄えています。6神は、一人ひとり、その人の行いに応じて報いられます」（ローマ 2:4-6　JSS2017）。しかし、わたくしたちは神に立ち返らなければ、主の道、正しい道に歩まなければ、必ず、その悪の報いを刈り取ります。神は正しい正義の神であり、恵みとあわれみを示すことを何より願っています。それは神に立ち返らせるためです。「主は、ある人たちが遅れていると思っているように、約束したことを遅らせているのではなく、あなたがたに対して忍耐しておられるのです。だれも滅びることがなく、すべての人が悔い改めに進むことを望んでおられるのです」（２ペテロ 3:9; 3:15も参照）。

2Ki 14:24,28 NIV84  He did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit. 28  As for the other events of Jeroboam’s reign, all he did, and his military achievements, including how he recovered for Israel both Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Yaudi, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

Observation

Jeroboam II (great-grandson of Jehu) was not a good king, He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. But Israel prospered materially and in regional power.  God fulfilled his promises to Israel especially through the prophet Jonah son of Amittai, but not because they were walking in God’s ways.  Prosperity and success is not necessarily a proof of God’s blessing, God’s goodness and blessing is sometime because He is trying to help us to understand his true heart for us.  “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance? 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will give to each person according to what he has done.”  (Rom 2:4-6 NIV84).  If we do not respond by turning to him and acknowledging his ways, we will reap the consequences of the wrath of God being stored up for our unrepentant rebellion.  God is a just and righteous God, but he desire to show us grace and mercy if we will only turn to him.  “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2Pet 3:9; see also 3:15).
