２列王記 16:10-11（新改訳JSS2017）　アハズ王は、アッシリアの王ティグラト・ピレセルに会うためダマスコに行ったとき、ダマスコにある祭壇を見た。アハズ王は、祭壇の図面とその模型を、詳細な作り方と一緒に祭司ウリヤに送った。祭司ウリヤは、アハズ王がダマスコから送ったものとそっくりの祭壇を築いた。祭司ウリヤは、アハズ王がダマスコから帰って来るまでに、そのようにした。

これは考えられな、信じられないことです！アハズは天の神、イスラエルとユダの神を完全に、露骨に軽視し、不敬を表します。真の神の宮を勝手に、自分の思いで改造し、天の神に対する敬意ではなく、アッシリヤ王に恭敬を示しました（18節参照）。アラムの首都ダマスコはアッシリヤ軍に征され、占領されました。アハズ王がアッシリヤ王に挨拶にダマスコまで行ったとき、ダマスコの町にあった偶像の祭壇を見て、それは主の神殿にある祭壇に勝ると思いました。これらの神々はダマスコを守ることもできなかったものです。でも、アハズはこれが、神がモーセに、ソロモンに指示して造られた祭壇に勝ると自分を欺きました。アハズは真の神、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神、イスラエルの神より、外国の王に敬意を示しました。唯一の真の神に真の礼拝捧げる方法が示されています（詩篇など参照）。イエスも教えました。「この山でもなく、エルサレムでもないところで、あなたがたが父を礼拝する時が来ます。しかし、まことの礼拝者たちが、御霊と真理によって父を礼拝する時が来ます。今がその時です。父はそのような人たちを、ご自分を礼拝する者として求めておられるのです。神は霊ですから、神を礼拝する人は、御霊と真理によって礼拝しなければなりません」（ヨハネ4:21,23,24 JSS2017）。「どうか、世々の王、すなわち、朽ちることなく、目に見えない唯一の神に、誉れと栄光が世々限りなくありますように。アーメン」（１テモテ1:17 JSS2017； 黙示録 4:9-10; 5:9-14; 19:1-6なども参照）。

2Ki 16:10-11 NIV84  Then King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria. He saw an altar in Damascus and sent to Uriah the priest a sketch of the altar, with detailed plans for its construction. 11 So Uriah the priest built an altar in accordance with all the plans that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus and finished it before King Ahaz returned.

Observation

This should be absolutely unthinkable.  Ahaz completely and blatantly disrespects the God of Judah, the one and only God of the Universe, and remodels the Temple of the Lord to his own wishes and designs, in deference to the King of Assyria (see v.18). Damascus (capital of Aram) has just been conquered and vanquished by the King of Assyria.  When Ahaz goes to pay his respects to the Assyrian King, he sees a pagan altar for burnt offerings in the city of Damascus.  These are gods that could not and did not protect Damascus, and yet Ahaz is deluded into thinking that this would be better than the Altar of Burnt offering God instructed Moses and Solomon to build.  Ahaz shows that he is more interested in honoring and respecting a foreign king than the One True God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of Israel. There is a right way (Truth) for worshipping the Lord God.  Jesus said, “A time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21,23,24 NIV84)  In the NT it is not about a physical location but an attitude and direction of the heart.  Scripture also is very clear about “how to worship” (see the Psalms etc.) but the most important thing is the heart.  “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (1Tim 1:17 NIV84; see also Rev 4:9-11; 5:9-14; 19:1-6 etc.)
