２列王記 21:1-2, 9 （新改訳JSS2017）　マナセは十二歳で王となり、エルサレムで五十五年間、王であった。彼の母の名はヘフツィ・バハといった。彼は、主がイスラエルの子らの前から追い払われた異邦の民の忌み嫌うべき慣わしをまねて、主の目に悪であることを行った。9 ．．．マナセは彼らを迷わせて、主がイスラエルの子らの前で根絶やしにされた異邦の民よりも、さらに悪いことを行わせた。

父ヘゼキヤがユダ王国を主に立ち返らせ、主の道に歩むように導いたのに、なぜ、マナセはここまで主から離れて、主のことばと主の道に逆らって歩まれたかに驚きます。ヘゼキヤは主に従い仕えられましたが、全ての目においてではなかったようです。預言者イザヤによって、バビロン帝国によって、ユダは滅ぼされ、すべてのものが持ち去られると警告されたとき、ヘゼキヤの態度は無関心でした。「ヒゼキヤはイザヤに言った。『あなたが告げてくれた主のことばはありがたい。』彼は、自分が生きている間は平和と安定があるのではないか、と思ったのである」（20:19 JSS2017）。主はヘゼキヤに15年間のいのちをおまけに与えられたのに、その時間を有効に用いられませんでした。次の世代に主のことばと主の道を教え悟されませんでした。神は約束されました。「もし彼らが、わたしの命じたすべてのこと、わたしのしもべモーセが彼らに命じたすべての律法を守り行いさえするなら、わたしはもう二度と、彼らの先祖たちに与えた地からイスラエルの足を迷い出させない。」しかし、彼らはこれに聞き従わなかった。マナセは彼らを迷わせて、主がイスラエルの子らの前で根絶やしにされた異邦の民よりも、さらに悪いことを行わせた」（8-9節 JSS2017； レビ記 26:3-13; 申命記 28:1-14なども参照）。神がヘゼキヤに与えられた恵みの15年の間にマナセが生まれました。しかし、ヘゼキヤはマナセに主のことばと主の道を教えるのを怠ったようです。箴言は私たちがどのように世代をおしえみちびくべきかを示しています。「わが子よ、私の教えを忘れるな。心に私の命令を保つようにせよ。2長い日々と、いのちと平安の年月が、あなたに増し加えられるからだ。5心を尽くして主に拠り頼め。自分の悟りに頼るな。6あなたの行く道すべてにおいて、主を知れ。主があなたの進む道をまっすぐにされる。7自分を知恵のある者と考えるな。主を恐れ、悪から遠ざかれ」（箴言 3:1-2,5-7; 申命記 6:3-9も参照）。

2Ki 21:1,2,9 NIV84  Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother’s name was Hephzibah. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. 9 …Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.

Observation

We wonder how Manasseh could have gone so wrong after Hezekiah his father had led Judah back to serving the Lord.  And yet evidently although Hezekiah served the Lord God of Israel, yet there were areas which he did not submit to the Lord God.  When warned that Babylon would invade, destroy and carry off everything that he and the Jews held precious, his attitude was, “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.” (20:19 NLT) God had given Hezekiah 15 extra years to live.  This should have been a time that he prepared the nation and the next generation to continue to serve the Lord and walk in his ways. God had promised, “If the Israelites will be careful to obey My commands—all the laws My servant Moses gave them—I will not send them into exile from this land that I gave their ancestors.” 9 But the people refused to listen.” (v.8-9 NLT; see also Lev 26:3-13; Deut. 28:1-14 etc.).  Manasseh was born during these years of grace that God had given Hezekiah, but he failed to use the time wisely and teach his son the ways of the Lord.  Proverbs gives the example of what we are to teach our children. “My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. 2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.” (Pro 3:1-2,5-7 NLT; see also Deut. 6:3-9)
