２列王記 23:2-3（新改訳JSS2017）　王は、ユダのすべての人々、エルサレムのすべての住民、祭司と預言者、および下の者から上の者まで、すべての民とともに主の宮に上り、主の宮で見つかった契約の書のことばをすべて彼らに読み聞かせた。それから王は柱のわきに立ち、主の前に契約を結び、主に従って歩み、心を尽くし、いのちを尽くして主の命令と証しと掟を守り、この書物に記されているこの契約のことばを実行することを誓った。民もみなこの契約に加わった。

コメント

ヨシア王は神のことばを聴いただだけではなく、そのみことばに応答しました（多分「第二の律法」とも呼ばれた申命記であったでしょう）。これはモーセが晩年において書かれ、イスラエルの民が神の律法を忘れることがないように定期的に読んで全会衆に聞かせるためのものでした。（申命記　29:1-2、12-15；31:12-13など参照）。これによって、主なる神とイスラエルの間の契約を思い起こし、再確認、承認するためのものでした。そして、これは各世代において、繰り返されなけらばなりませんでしたが、それを怠った結果、神と神のことば、契約からイスラエルは遠く離れてしまったのです。ヨシア王は民と共に神のことばを聴き、その契約を再承認しました。これはモーセの契約と言われ古い契約とも言われたものです。私たちはイエスキリストが流された血によって新しい契約が与えられています（マタイ26:28； ヘブル12:24；7：22など参照）。「永遠の契約の血による羊の大牧者、私たちの主イエスを、死者の中から導き出された平和の神が、あらゆる良いものをもって、あなたがたを整え、みこころを行わせてくださいますように。また、御前でみこころにかなうことを、イエス・キリストを通して、私たちのうちに行ってくださいますように。栄光が世々限りなくイエス・キリストにありますように。アーメン」（へブル13：20-21 JSS2017）。神のみことばを読み、聴き、神が与えてくださった新しい契約をもう一度再確認して、私たち自身がその契約を再承認しましょう。

2Ki 23:2-3 NLT  And the king went up to the Temple of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, along with the priests and the prophets—all the people from the least to the greatest. There the king read to them the entire Book of the Covenant that had been found in the LORD’s Temple. 3 The king took his place of authority beside the pillar and renewed the covenant in the LORD’s presence. He pledged to obey the LORD by keeping all His commands, laws, and decrees with all his heart and soul. In this way, he confirmed all the terms of the covenant that were written in the scroll, and all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.

Observation

Josiah not only read and responded to the words of the Law of the Lord read to him (most likely the Book of Deuteronomy, also called “The Second Law”).  This was written by Moses at the end of his life to once again remind the people of the Laws of the Lord and to re-establish the covenant of the Lord with the people (see Deut 29:1-2, 12-15; 31:12-13).  They were supposed to read this “Book of the Law” regularly so that they would remember and keep the Law of the Lord and stay in covenant with the Lord.  They were to continually remind them and rehearse this with every generation after them.  Josiah returned to what Israel and Judah were supposed to be doing all along.  Then it says that King Josiah and the people reestablished their covenant with the Lord. This was the Old Covenant (Mosaic Covenant between the Lord and Israel), but we have been given a New Covenant through Jesus Christ and his shed blood (see Matt 26:28; Heb 12:24; 7:22 etc.).  “Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with His blood—21 may He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.” (Heb 13:20-21 NLT).  Let’s refresh and renew the Word of the Lord and then continually renew and recommit ourselves to the Covenant of the Lord.
