２列王記 24:12-13（新改訳JSS2017）　ユダの王エホヤキンは、その母、家来たち、高官たち、宦官たちと一緒にバビロンの王に降伏したので、バビロンの王は、その治世の第八年に、彼を捕虜にした。13バビロンの王は、主の宮の財宝と王宮の財宝をことごとく運び出し、主の神殿の中にあるイスラエルの王ソロモンが作ったすべての金の用具を切り裂いた。主が告げられたとおりであった。

とうとう起きました。主のことばどおりバビロンはエルサレムを征服し、多くのユダヤ人が、バビロン捕囚に連れられて行きました。また、人々だけではなく金も銀も、価値あるものも持って行かれました、特に主の神殿のもの。この時からイスラエルの年代は外国の年代で示されるようになります（「バビロンの王は、その治世の第八年に．．．」）。すべてが変わりました。でも、主はこの時をどう見られて、語られたでしょうか？この時に主はこの約束を語られたのです。「まことに、主はこう言われる。『バビロンに七十年が満ちるころ、わたしはあなたがたを顧み、あなたがたにいつくしみの約束を果たして、あなたがたをこの場所に帰らせる。11わたし自身、あなたがたのために立てている計画をよく知っている──主のことば──。それはわざわいではなく平安を与える計画であり、あなたがたに将来と希望を与えるためのものだ。12あなたがたがわたしに呼びかけ、来て、わたしに祈るなら、わたしはあなたがたに耳を傾ける。13あなたがたがわたしを捜し求めるとき、心を尽くしてわたしを求めるなら、わたしを見つける。14わたしはあなたがたに見出される──主のことば──。わたしは、あなたがたを元どおりにする。あなたがたを追い散らした先のあらゆる国々とあらゆる場所から、あなたがたを集める──主のことば──。わたしはあなたがたを、引いて行った先から元の場所へ帰らせる』」（エレミヤ 29:10-14 JSS2017）。主イエスに目を留めている間は私たちは将来と希望を握ることができる。もう一つに注目しましょう。この預言のことばはバビロン捕囚の終わりに部分的に成就しましたが、今日さらに成就しているものです。全世界の果てから約束通りにユダヤ人とイスラエル人がイスラエルの故郷に集められています。神はいつも私たちのために将来と希望を与えられています。

2Ki 24:12-13 NIV84  Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered to him. In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner. 13 As the LORD had declared, Nebuchadnezzar removed all the treasures from the temple of the LORD and from the royal palace, and took away all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made for the temple of the LORD.

Observation

It finally happens.  Just as the Word of the Lord had promised, Babylon conquers and takes most of the Jews from Jerusalem into captivity. Thus begins probably the lowest and darkest time in the history of the Jews, the Babylonian Captivity.  Not only the people of the land but the gold and silver and everything of value especially of the Temple are taken to Babylon. From here on the dates of Judah’s history is recorded according to the dates of a foreign nation (in the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon.) It seems that everything changes.  But how does God see this time? This is the word of the Lord given at this time. “This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” (Jer 29:10-14 NIV84) It was in this darkest, lowest moment that the Lord promised, “I know the plans I have for you…plans to give you a hope and a future.”  As long as we keep our eyes on the Lord, we have a hope and a future. Also note, that this was partially fulfilled at the end of the Babylonian captivity, but even more fully being fulfilled now as Jews from every corner of the world are returning to the Land of Israel.  God has a plan for a hope and a future.
