２列王記 25:26（新改訳JSS2017）　そこで民はみな、身分の下の者から上の者まで、軍の高官たちとともに、立ってエジプトへ行った。カルデア人を恐れたからである。

私たちは恐れからではなく、信仰によって決断し、行動しなければなりません。この時代は困惑と大混乱の時でありました。バビロン帝国が攻めてこられ、エルサレムを崩壊させ、ほとんどの人々をバビロン捕囚へと連れられて行きました。わずかな残りの者がユダに残されていました。そして彼らは非常に恐れていました。この時代と並行して書かれてエレミヤ書を見ますと、預言者エレミヤは彼らとともに残されていました。民の指導者たちはエレミヤに主のことばを求めました。「彼らはエレミヤに言った。「主が、私たちの間で真実で確かな証人であられますように。私たちは必ず、あなたの神、主が私たちのためにあなたを遣わして告げられることばのとおりに、すべて行います。それが良くても悪くても、私たちは、あなたを遣わされた私たちの神、主の御声に聞き従います。私たちの神、主の御声に聞き従って幸せを得るためです」（エレミヤ42:5-6 JSS2017）。エレミヤは主を求めて主のことばをいただきました。「もし、あなたがたがこの地にとどまるのであれば、わたしはあなたがたを建て直して、壊すことなく、あなたがたを植えて、引き抜くことはない。わたしは、あなたがたに下したあのわざわいを悔やんでいるからだ。11あなたがたが恐れているバビロンの王を恐れるな。彼を恐れるな──主のことば──。わたしがあなたがたとともにいて、彼の手からあなたがたを救い、助け出すからだ。12わたしがあなたがたにあわれみを施すので、彼はあなたがたをあわれんで、あなたがたを自分たちの土地に帰らせる」（エレミヤ42:10-12 JSS2017）。しかし、恐れのゆえに主のことばを受け入れず、自分たちの思いで行動しエジプトに下しました（エレミヤ43:7参照）。状況がされに悪化していきました。ダビデは言いました。「心に恐れを覚える日　私はあなたに信頼します」（詩篇56:3 JSS2017）。イザヤはこう言いました。「見よ、神は私の救い。私は信頼して恐れない。ヤハ、主は私の力、私のほめ歌。私のために救いとなられた」（イザヤ 12:2　JSS2017）。恐れから決断したり、行動すると、間違った決断をしやすいです。神を信じて、その信仰によって、行動すると、神が必ず導いてください、共にいてくださいます。

2Ki 25:26 ESV Then all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces arose and went to Egypt, for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

Observation

We must not make decisions and act out of fear but from faith. This is a time of great confusion and turmoil.  Babylon had conquered and destroyed Jerusalem.  Most of the people have been exiled to Babylon and only a small remnant remain in Judah.  They are very fearful, there are many opposing voices telling them what to do and there is much confusion.  Jeremiah the prophet of the Lord is also there with them and the leaders of the land ask him to seek the Lord and speak the word of the Lord to them. “Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to all the word with which the LORD your God sends you to us. 6 Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.” (Jer 42:5-6 ESV)  But when Jeremiah told them, “If you will remain in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down; I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I relent of the disaster that I did to you. 11 Do not fear the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Do not fear him, declares the LORD, for I am with you, to save you and to deliver you from his hand. 12 I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and let you remain in your own land.” (Jer 42:10-12 ESV)  But because of fear they refused to listen and follow the Lord’s word.  “And they came into the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of the LORD.” (Jer 43:7 ESV).  “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” (Psa 56:3 ESV).  “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” (Isa 12:2 ESV) Fear causes us to make wrong decisions.  To make the right decision, we must trust God and his word.
