１テサロニケ 5:23-24（リビングバイブルJCB）　どうか、平和の神が、あなたがたを完全にきよめてくださいますように。あなたがたの霊とたましいと体とが、いつも健全で、主イエス・キリストが再び来られる時、少しも非難されない者としてくださいますように。 24あなたがたを招いてご自分の子どもとしてくださった神は、約束どおり、それらのことをなしてくださいます。

コメント

パウロはこの手紙の最後に祝祷をもって彼らに安心と確信を与えています。その祈りは平和の神が（この平和はヘブル語の「シャローム」から訳されたもので、「安全、健やか、幸せ、安否、健康、繁栄と平和、平安」の意味）彼らを聖別しきよめて、完全、健全の者とすることでした。それは霊、たましい、体が、神が元から創造された一体となることです。神は私たちを霊魂体の一帯の存在として創造されました。キリストが身代わりとして死なれたのはただ私たちのたましいや霊を救うためではなく、霊魂体一帯の救いのためでした。帰って来られるのはその完全な者をご自分のもとに迎えるためです。そして、約束しています。「あなたがたを召された方は真実ですから、そのようにしてくださいます」（JSS2017）。パウロはピリピの人々にも同じようのことを言いました。「あなたがたのうちに良い働きを始められた神は、必ずそれを恵みのうちに成長させ、やがてキリスト・イエスが帰って来られる日までに、それを完成してくださると、私は堅く信じています」（ピリピ1:6 JCB）。

1Th 5:23-24 MSG  May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together–spirit, soul, and body–and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. 24 The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!

Observation

Paul gives his benediction and assurance to the Thessalonians.  His prayer is for the God of Peace (translation of Hebrew Shalom: safe, well, happy, welfare, health prosperity and peace) to sanctify them completely (perfectly, wholly). This means to be in perfect alignment with how God created us to be and as he is restoring us to be. God created us spirit, soul and body, to be one being.  Jesus did not die to redeem just our soul or spirit but rather our total being, spirit, soul and body.  That is what he is coming for when he returns.  The promise is “The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.” (NIV84)  We can trust him, put our faith completely in him.  Paul said the same thing to the Philippians, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Phil 1:6 NLT).
