２テサロニケ1:3,11-12 （新改訳JSS2017）　 兄弟たち。あなたがたについて、私たちはいつも神に感謝しなければなりません。それは当然のことです。あなたがたの信仰が大いに成長し、あなたがたすべての間で、一人ひとりの互いに対する愛が増し加わっているからです。11こうしたことのため、私たちはいつも、あなたがたのために祈っています。どうか私たちの神が、あなたがたを召しにふさわしい者にし、また御力によって、善を求めるあらゆる願いと、信仰から出た働きを実現してくださいますように。12それは、私たちの神であり主であるイエス・キリストの恵みによって、私たちの主イエスの名があなたがたの間であがめられ、あなたがたも主にあって栄光を受けるためです。

コメント

パウロはテサロニケの信者たちに続けて手紙を送り、信仰を励まし、教えています。この手紙の中でパウロはくりかえし、テサロニケの信者たちのために祈りをささげています。冒頭で彼らの成長している信仰とますます増し加わっている愛を感謝しています。さらに、彼らが主に召された者としてふさわしく生活できるようにと祈ってます。それは御霊の力によって信仰から生み出された働き(善い行い)が実現するようにと祈ってます(ヤコブ2:17,20,26と比較)。また、彼らの行いがすべて、神の栄光と誉になるように、そして、彼らも共に誉と栄光にあずかることができるようにと祈ってます(1ペテロ 1:7-8も参照)。これらはすべて神の恵みによってのみ可能となります（ローマ１:７; １コリント １:４;　２コリント ８:９　なども参照）。私たちは試練や苦難、特に迫害の中で、これらのことをおぼえておかなければなりません。信仰と愛と神の恵みは私たちを支え、導き通しれくれます。

2Th 1:3,11-12 NLT  Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. 11  So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with Him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Observation

Paul continues his encouragement and instruction to the Thessalonians in this second letter.  Throughout this letter he repeatedly prays for the believers of Thessalonica.  He begins his letter with a prayer of thanks for their flourishing faith and their growing love.  Then he prays that they would continue to live a life worthy of His call and be empowered (by the Spirit) to accomplish good works prompted by their faith (comp. Jam 2:17,20,26).  Finally, he prays that in all that they do the Lord Jesus would be honored, and they would be honored along with Christ (see 1Pet 1:7-8). This is all possible only because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ (strength, help, unmerited gift of God; see also Rom 1:7; 1Cor 1:4; 2Cor 8:9 etc.).  These are the things to remember in the midst of our trails, hardships and even persecution: faith, love, and God’s grace will sustain and carry us through.
