２テサロニケ 2:13-14 （新改訳 JSS2017）　　しかし、主に愛されている兄弟たち。私たちはあなたがたのことについて、いつも神に感謝しなければなりません。神が、御霊による聖別と、真理に対する信仰によって、あなたがたを初穂として救いに選ばれたからです。14そのために神は、私たちの福音によってあなたがたを召し、私たちの主イエス・キリストの栄光にあずからせてくださいました。

コメント

もちろん私たちは神の恵みと救いに応答しなければなりませんが、まず、神ご自身が私たちを救われる者として選ばれたことを忘れてはなりません。私たちの救いは聖霊の新生と聖化の働きによりますが（私たちの行いによってきよい者となることができません）、しかし、私たちの信仰の応答が必要です。主に選ばれて、召されるのはただ天国で永遠を過ごすためのものではなく（もちろん主と共に永遠に生きることができます）、私たちは主イエスキリストの栄光にあずかる者とされるのです。パウロはローマ人へこのように説明しました。「あなたがたは、人を再び恐怖に陥れる、奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子とする御霊を受けたのです。この御霊によって、私たちは「アバ、父」と叫びます。16 御霊ご自身が、私たちの霊とともに、私たちが神の子どもであることを証ししてくださいます。17 子どもであるなら、相続人でもあります。私たちはキリストと、栄光をともに受けるために苦難をともにしているのですから、神の相続人であり、キリストとともに共同相続人なのです」（ローマ 8:15-17 JSS2017）。永遠において神はただ天国を楽しむことだでではなく、もっと大きな素晴らしい計画と持っておられます。私たちの存在の意義はこの地上での生活だけではなく、神の永遠の計画があります。この世界での人生はそのための準備期間にすぎません。それは神の子の身分を味わうことも含みます。さらに、キリストと共に、神の創造の世界を治めるためです。そしてキリストと共にその栄光にあずかることです。これは本当にどのような意味であるか、何を含めているかをまだ完全に理解できていないことです。しかし、わたくしたちには素晴らしい、輝かし、栄光の将来があるのです。

2Th 2:13-14 NIV84  But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Observation

Even though we must respond to God’s grace and salvation, we must never forget that HE is the one who chose us to be saved.  It involves both the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit (we cannot be sanctified or made holy by our own works), but it also requires our response of faith to the truth.  The goal and purpose of this calling is not just to go to heaven (though of course it does include that), but to actually “share in the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul explained it to the Romans this way, “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Rom 8:15-17 NIV84). God has so much more planned and in store for us that just spending eternity in heaven.  Our main purpose for existence is not what we do here on earth in this life, but God’s eternal plan for us.  This life is just a preparation.  It includes sonship, reigning with Christ over all of his creation and sharing in his glory, whatever that might mean and include.  We have a glorious future.
