２テサロニケ 3:16,18 （新改訳JSS2017）　どうか、平和の主ご自身が、どんな時にも、どんな場合にも、あなたがたに平和を与えてくださいますように。どうか、主があなたがたすべてとともにいてくださいますように。18私たちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたすべてとともにありますように。

パウロはほとんどの手紙で、始めと終わりのあいさつに恵みと平和（平安）の二つのことばを使っています（ローマ1:7； １コリント1:3; エペソ6:23-24など参照）。これはただ美しい挨拶のことばではなく、本当に深い意味も込められているものです。恵みとは神の功績によらず、値なしの好意と助け、特に私たちの弱さを補うものです。平和（平安、原語は同じことば）とはまず、私たちの神との関係を現すもので、神と争うものではなく、和解し、神との関係に調和と安らぎがあることから始まり、さらに、他の人々とともに平穏な安らかな関係を保つことです。また自分の内にも安らぎと穏やかな心を持つことです。平和は争のない状況よりは私たちの安らぎを穏やかすもの（サタン、悪、圧政など）を静める、取り除くことから来ます。パウロはこのことを神の民のために、私たちのために祈ってます。ローマ人への手紙で、このように言いました。「平和の神は、速やかに、あなたがたの足の下でサタンを踏み砕いてくださいます。どうか、私たちの主イエスの恵みが、あなたがたとともにありますように」（ローマ16:20 JSS2017）。私たちはこの恵みと平安（平和）をイエス・キリストを通してのみ、得ることができます。イエスは言いました。「あなたがたに贈り物をあげましょう。あなたがたの思いと心を安らかにすること、それがわたしの贈り物です。わたしが与える平安は、この世のはかない平安とは比べものになりません。だから、どんな時にもおろおろしたり、恐れたりしてはいけません」（ヨハネ 14:27 JCB）。「これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、あなたがたがわたしにあって平安を得るためです。世にあっては苦難があります。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝ちました」（ヨハネ16:33 JSS2017）。イエスだけが私たちの恵みと平和の源です。

2Th 3:16,18 NIV84  Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Observation

Paul almost always opens and closes his letters with the words grace and peace (see Rom 1:7; 1Cor 1:3; 2Cor etc.) They are not just nice greeting words but carry much meaning.  Grace is God’s unmerited and unearned favor, and his strength and power for our weakness.  Peace is first our relationship with God himself, no enmity, but harmony and tranquility that results. Also, this produces peace with one another (no conflicts with others) and peace within ourselves. It is not just the absence of conflict and war but elimination of anything that can disturb the peace (Satan, evil, tyranny etc.) This is Paul’s prayer for us, the people of God.  In his letter to the Romans, Paul says, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.” (Rom 16:20 NLT).  We can only have true grace and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” (John 14:27 WEB).  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV84). Only Jesus is our source of grace and peace.
