ネヘミヤ 4:14 （リビングバイブルJCB）　私はこのような情況を踏まえ、指導者や国民を集めて、こう言いました。「恐れてはなりません。神様は偉大で、恵み深いお方ではありませんか。さあ戦うのです。友のため、家族のため、家のために。」

コメント

ネヘミヤとユダヤ人はエルサレムの城壁と町をがれきの中から復旧工事をしていました。そこで、敵の人々が彼らをあざけり言いました。「この惨めったらしいユダヤ人は、何をしているつもりなのか。いけにえをささげさえすれば、一日で城壁ができ上がると思っているようだ。見るがいい。瓦礫の中から、焼けこげた石を引っぱり出しているあの姿を」（2節JCB）。さらに、彼らを攻撃しようと話し、企み、殺してでも何とかこの働きを留めようとしました（8-12節）。でも、これは彼らの働きを阻止しませんでした。ネヘミヤは励ましました。「彼らを恐れてはならない。大いなる恐るべき主を覚え、自分たちの兄弟、息子、娘、妻、また家のために戦いなさい」（14節 JSS2017）。私たちは自分と私たちの家族、子孫のために、自由と福音の世界に住み、拡大できるように戦いましょう（エペソ6:10-18参照）。これは肉的な戦いではなく、霊的な超自然的な戦いです（２コリント10:4-5参照）。

Neh 4:14 NLT Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”

Observation

Nehemiah and the people have started to work on the walls and rebuild the city out of the rubble.  Their enemies mock them and say, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?” (v.2 NIV84) They also talk of and plan to attack them and even kill them to stop the work of rebuilding Jerusalem (see v.8,11-12).  But this does not deter them.  Nehemiah encourages everyone saying, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your homes.”  Everything is at stake and now is the time to stand and fight (see Eph 6:10-18).  We are not in a physical battle but a spiritual one with spiritual enemies that want to destroy us and the work that God is doing (see 2Cor 10:4-5).
