ネヘミヤ 3:23-24（新改訳JSS2017）　その向こうでは、ベニヤミンとハシュブが自分たちの家のそばの部分を修復した。その向こうでは、アナネヤの子マアセヤの子アザルヤが自分の家の近くを修復した。24その向こうでは、ヘナダデの子ビヌイが続きの部分を、アザルヤの家から城壁の曲がり角の隅まで修復した。

コメント

この3章の全体はエルサレムとその城壁復興に携わった人びとの名前が記録です。ほとんどの名前はここでしか残されていません。しかしその働きは非常に重要なもので神は永遠に記念として書き残されました。彼らは立ち上がり、自分で責任を取った働きが記録されています。「そして、私に恵みを下さった私の神の御手のことと、また王が言ったことばを彼らに告げた。すると彼らは「さあ、再建に取りかかろう」と言って、この良い仕事に着手した」（ネヘミヤ2:18 JSS2017）。ユダのほかの町々からもエルサレムに集まってこの働きに加わりました（エリコ２節;ギベオンとミツパ７節;ケイラ１８節;テコア ５,２７節、など）。また、様々なグループの人たちも共に働きました（祭司 1,22,28節； レビ人 17節； 宮のしもべ 26,31節、など）。しかし、多くの者は自分の家の前の部分の修復にかかわりました（10,23,24,28,29など参照）。長年間エルサレムの住民たちは崩壊のひどさと、がれきの多さに圧倒されて失望していました（ネヘミヤ2:3,17参照）。しかし、今多くの方々が共に立ちあがって、共に働き始めました。でも、自分に割り当てられた分、特に、家の前や周りのところで働きました。伝道の書では戒められています「あなたの手がなし得ると分かったことはすべて、自分の力でそれをせよ」（伝道の書 9:10 JSS2017）。パウロも言いました。「何をするにも、人に対してではなく、主に対してするように、心から行いなさい」（コロサイ 3:23 JSS2017）。必要ややるべきことが分かったら、自分のできるところで働けば、どんな大きな働きであっても、みんなで共に働いて、成し遂げることができます。

Neh 3:23-24 ESV  After them Benjamin and Hasshub repaired opposite their house. After them Azariah the son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah repaired beside his own house. 24 After him Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to the buttress 25 and to the corner.

Observation

The whole of chapter 3 is a list of people who rose up to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and specifically the portions for which they took responsibility. “And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.” (Neh 2:18 ESV).  There were people who came from other cities and areas of Judah (Jericho v.2; Gideon, Mizpah v.7; Keilah v.18; Mizpah v.19; Tekoa v.5, 27 etc.) There were also certain groups of people that worked together (Priests v.1, 22,28; Levites v.17; temple servants v.26,31 etc.) But most of the people worked on the portion next to their house (see v. 10, 23, 24, 28, 29 etc.)  The people of Jerusalem had been discouraged for many years because of the extent of the damage and the much rubble around them (see Neh 2:3, 17).  Now they all rose together to do something about it, but everyone just did a portion, and especially what was right in front of their own house.  Ecclesiastes admonishes us , “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” (Ecc 9:10 NIV84;  MSG – “Whatever turns up, grab it and do it.  And heartily!”) Paul said, “Whatever you do, work at it will all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for me.”  (Col 3:23 NIV84; see also 1Pet 2:5, 9).  If you see a need, do what you can to meet it.  When we all work together to do the things right in front of us, even a great task can be accomplished.
