Neh 7:5 NIV84 So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return. This is what I found written there:
Observation
Nehemiah tells us that “my God put it into my heart…â€. First and foremost, we see that Nehemiah has a personal relationship with the God of the Universe and the God of Israel. He has a plan and purpose but uses men and women who have an ear to hear and do what He puts in their hearts to do. If it is truly “a good work†then it can only come from the heart of God. “Whatever good motion is in our minds, whether prudent or pious, we must acknowledge it to come from God; for every good gift and every good work are from above; he gives knowledge, he gives grace. What is commonly called human prudence, ought to be ascribed to the direction of Divine Providence.†(TSK Neh 7:5) “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father†(Jam 1:17 NLT). “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.†(Eph 2:10 NIV84) “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.†(Phil 2:13 NIV84). There is nothing insignificant with God. Nehemiah senses that God wants him to gather and record the genealogical records of the people who have returned from Babylonian captivity to rebuild Judah and Jerusalem. This is all part of God great plan and though the many people involved may seem insignificant to some people, God does not overlook anyone. God keeps records. One of the most important records is called “The Book of Life†(Phil 4:3; Rev 3:5; 20:12 etc.) Is your name in the Book of Life? What has God put in your heart to do?
How does this apply to you?
