ネヘミヤ 7:61 （新改訳JSS2017） 次の人々はテル・メラフ、テル・ハルシャ、ケルブ、アドン、イメルから引き揚げて来たが、自分たちの先祖の家系と血統がイスラエル人であったかどうかを証明できなかった。64．．．これらの人々は自分たちの系図書きを捜してみたが、見つからなかったので、彼らは祭司職を果たす資格がない者とされた。

聖書を通して神は記録を記載する神であることが分かります。創世記4-5章にはカインからの子孫とセツからの子孫の記録が記されています。歴代誌の最初の10章はアダムからの特にアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブ（イスラエル）の系図の記録があります。これはバビロン捕囚までのものです。バビロン捕囚の結果、ある者の記録がなくなったり、系図の記録を守ろうとしませんでした。捕囚から帰ってきた者の生粋なユダヤ系の者であるとする記録の証明を出すことができませんでした。特にレビ人であったり祭司系の者であることが証明できなかった人々がいました。これは重大のことであって、神の正しいさばきによってのみ確かめることができした（65節参照）。神は今も記録を取り、多くの記録の書を持っておられます（黙示録20:12 参照）。最も重要な記録書は「いのちの書」と呼ばれているものです（ピリピ 4:3参照）。黙示録の教会にイエスは約束しました。「勝利を得る者は、このように白い衣を着せられる。またわたしは、その者の名をいのちの書から決して消しはしない。わたしはその名を、わたしの父の御前と御使いたちの前で言い表す」（黙示録3:5 JSS2017）。しかし、このいのちの書に名前が記載されていないものに厳しい警告を与えました。「いのちの書に記されていない者はみな、火の池に投げ込まれた」（黙示録 20:15 JSS2017）。どうしたら、神の子となり、この神の家族の「いのちの書」に含まれることができるのでしょうか？「しかし、彼を受け入れた者〈歓迎した者〉、すなわち彼の御名を信ずる〈御名に心服する、信頼する、より頼む〉者には、だれにも、彼は、神の子どもとなる権〔力、特権、権利〕を与えられた」（ヨハネ1:12 詳訳聖書； イザヤ56：5も参照）。私たちの名前がいのちの書に記載されていることを確かめましょう。

Neh 7:61  The following came up from the towns of Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon and Immer, but they could not show that their families were descended from Israel. 64  These searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

Observation

Throughout the Bible we see that God is a keeper of records. Genesis starts out with genealogical records.  The Book of Chronicles gives detailed records of the families and genealogies of Israel up to the Babylonian Captivity.  But the captivity disrupted much and some people failed to keep their family records to verify their lineage.  When the people began to return to the land of Judah, it was important to verify the validity of their claim to be Jews and especially the Levite tribe and priests who would minister in the new Temple.  But some people who claimed to be Jews or Levites could not prove their lineage and verify their families.  God still keeps many records but the most important one for us is the Book of Life (see Phil 4:3).  To the churches in Revelation Jesus promised, “He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.” (Rev 3:5 NIV84).  But he also warns about those whose name could not be found in the Book of Life. “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Rev 20:15 NIV84). In the beginning of John’s Gospel we are told exactly how to become a child of God and part of God’s family. “But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name.” (see also Isa 56:5).  Let’s make sure our names are written in the Book of Life.
