Scripture

Neh 9:19,31 NLT  “But in Your great mercy You did not abandon them to die in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud still led them forward by day, and the pillar of fire showed them the way through the night. 31 But in Your great mercy, You did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God You are!

Observation

The Levitical leaders stood up and began leading the people in prayer. (see v.5).  They praise the Lord God (see v.5-6).  Then they reiterated Israel’s journey and history of how God has led them, protected them, provided for them, stood with them, fought for them.  And yet Israel and Judah turned away from the Lord and rebelled against him.  But the Lord God still did not abandon them because of his great mercy.  “What a gracious and merciful God You are!†This is exactly what the Lord declared to Moses as the Lord passed before him, “”Yahweh! The LORD! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness…†(Exo 34:6 NLT).  David in the Psalms declares the same thing: “The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.†(Psa 103:8 NLT)  And, “The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation.†(Psa 145:8-9). No matter what has happened, or where we are at, here is his promise to us. “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.â€Â  (Lam 3:22-23 NLT) Trust in the Goodness, Graciousness, Lovingkindness, and Mercy of the Lord our God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
How does this apply to you?
