ネヘミヤ 9:32-33（リビングバイブルJCB）　大いなる、恐るべき神様。あなたは愛と思いやりに満ち、約束をお守りになる方です。私たちが経験してきたすべての困難が、全く無駄だったというようなことになりませんように。アッシリヤの王に初めて征服されてから今日まで、私たちや王、諸侯、祭司、預言者など、私たちの先祖の経験してきた困難は大きなものでした。 33いつでも、あなたは私たちを正しく罰しました。犯した罪の深さからすれば当然の罰です。

ユダの指導者と民は自分たちの罪も、父祖たちの罪も告白しました。真の悔い改めにはまず罪を認めなければなりませんが、同時に、神の正義と公正も認め、神のあわれみといつくしみを呼び求めなければなりません。ダニエルもこの同じ時期に悔い改めの祈りをささげました（ダニエル9:18-19参照）。ダビデは言いました。「罪の深さに応じて私たちが当然受けるべき罰を そのまま下すこともありません」（詩篇103:10 JCB）。「主がいつまでも私たちの罪を心に留められるとしたら、この祈りも聞いてはいただけないでしょう。しかし、恐れ多いことですが、あなたは赦してくださるお方です」（詩篇130:3-4 JCB）。パウロも言いました。「神は私たちを救い、そのきよい仕事に任命するために選んでくださいました。それは、私たちにその仕事をする資格があったからではなく、神の計画と恵みによるのです。この恵みは、キリスト・イエスにおいて、この世の始まる前から私たちに与えられたものでした」（２テモテ 1:9 JCB）。使徒ヨハネは戒めました。「もし自分には罪がないと言うなら、それは、自分のほんとうの姿から目をそらしているのであって、真理を受け入れようとしない証拠です。 9しかし、もし自らの罪を神に告白するなら、神は真実な方ですから、その罪赦し、すべての悪から私たちをきよめてくださいます。 10潔白だと言いはるなら、自分がうそつきになるばかりか、神をもうそつき呼ばわりすることになります。なぜなら神は、「すべての人は罪を犯した」とはっきり宣言しておられるからです」（１ヨハネ 1:8-10 JCB）。

Neh 9:32-33 NLT  “And now, our God, the great and mighty and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of unfailing love, do not let all the hardships we have suffered seem insignificant to You. Great trouble has come upon us and upon our kings and leaders and priests and prophets and ancestors—all of Your people—from the days when the kings of Assyria first triumphed over us until now. 33 Every time You punished us You were being just. We have sinned greatly, and You gave us only what we deserved.

Observation

The people of Judah together confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors. True repentance acknowledges not only our sin but the justice and righteousness of God, but also calls upon his mercy and grace. Daniel also prayed a prayer of repentance about the same time (see Dan 9:18-19).  David said, “He does not punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.” (Psa 103:10 NLT). “LORD, if You kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? 4  But You offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear You.” (Psa 130:3-4 NLT)  Paul tells us, “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time—to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.” (2Tim 1:9 NLT)  The Apostle John challenges us, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts.” (1John 1:8-10 NLT).
