ホセア13:4 （新改訳JSS2017）　しかしわたしは、エジプトの地にいたときから、あなたの神、主である。あなたはわたしのほかに神を知らない。わたしのほかに救う者はいない。

ホセアはイスラエル（エフライム）に神がしてくださったことを思い起こさせようとしています。主はイスラエルをエジプトの奴隷の身から奇跡的に救い出し、紅海を分けシナイ山まで導かれました。そこで神の律法を与え、「わたしは、あなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出したあなたの神、主である。あなたには、わたし以外に、ほかの神があってはならない」（出エジプト記 20:2-3　JSS2017）と言いました。それだけではなく、荒野を旅している間、常に食物を与えました（13：5-6参照）。彼らは腹いっぱい食べ満足しましたが、感謝するところ、不平をも言いました。そして高慢になり神を忘れました。感謝は私たちの意識と焦点を神に向けます。感謝をしなければ、私たちは自分のことは自分でできると思い、神の助けを必要としなくなるのです。「イスラエルよ、あなたは滅ぼされる。あなたの助け手である、わたしに背いたからだ」（13：9 JSS2017）。詩篇の中で、神がしてくださった多くの良きことに感謝を表しています。「主に感謝せよ。主はまことにいつくしみ深い。その恵みはとこしえまで。」主に贖われた者は　そう言え。主は彼らを敵の手から贖い」（詩篇107：1-2 JSS2017）。「主に感謝せよ。主はまことにいつくしみ深い。主の恵みはとこしえまで。2神の神であられる方に感謝せよ。主の恵みはとこしえまで。3主の主であられる方に感謝せよ。主の恵みはとこしえまで。4ただひとり　大いなる不思議を行われる方に。主の恵みはとこしえまで」（詩篇 136:1-4 JSS2017）。神に感謝するとき私たちは主をあがめるのです（大きく拡大する意味）（詩篇69：30参照）。私たちは神に感謝することによって、私たちの生活の中に神の存在を拡大し、大きくするのです。こうして私たちは神を忘れることのないようにします。

Hos 13:4  “But I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me.

Observation

Hosea is trying to get Israel (Ephraim) to remember who has been her God and brought her this far.  The Lord is the one who miraculously delivered Israel from Egypt’s bondage, divided the Red Sea and brought them to Mt. Sinai to give them the Law (“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exo 20:2-3 NIV84)).  Not only that, He provided for them and even fed them all the while they were in the desert. (see v.5-6).  But the more they ate and were satisfied, instead of being thankful, they became proud and forgot God.  Thankfulness puts our attention and focus on God and His goodness.  If we do not have a thankful heart, we begin to think that we are able to take care of ourselves and don’t need God’s help.  “You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against me, against your helper.” (v. 9 NIV84)  Many of the Psalms are expressions of thanksgiving for all that God has done.  “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say this— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.” (Psa 107:1-2 NIV84). “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.2 Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. 4 to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. (Psa 136:1-4 NIV84) When we learn to give thanks for everything, we will see God in every part of our life. “I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.” (Psa 69:30 ESV).  When we are thankful, we glorify God magnify Him, make Him large in our lives.  That is how we can learn to never forget God.
