ガラテヤ地方の教会はパウロが第一宣教旅行の時に開拓した教会です：ペルゲ、ピシディアのアンティオキア、イコニオン、リステラとデルベなど、使徒の働き13-14章参照）。これらの町では純粋な恵みの福音を語り、多くの人々が信仰によってイエス・キリストを信じた（「キリストは、今の悪の時代から私たちを救い出すために、私たちの罪のためにご自分を与えてくださいました」）。しかし、そのすぐ後に、別の者（ユダヤ教主義者）が来て、旧約の律法（トーラー）を守らなければ救いはないと教えました。これは多くの混乱をもたらしました；高慢の元にもなりました。その結果、行いと律法主義による救いに堕落していきました。パウロはガラテヤの人々に言いました。「私は驚いています。あなたがたが、キリストの恵みによって自分たちを召してくださった方から、このように急に離れて、ほかの福音に移って行くことに。ほかの福音といっても、もう一つ別に福音があるわけではありません」（6-7節 JSS2017）。パウロは彼らがもう一度真の福音にある自由に戻ってほしいと語っています。「キリストは、自由を得させるために私たちを解放してくださいました。ですから、あなたがたは堅く立って、再び奴隷のくびきを負わされないようにしなさい」（ガラテヤ5:1 JSS2017; 3:19-20も参照）。ガラテヤ人への手紙の全体的な意味を理解するために、バイブルプロジェクトのガラテヤ人への手紙のビデオを参考にしてください　（日本語版：https://youtu.be/5u8J2hGGYRU ）。

Observation

The churches of Galatia were some of the first Paul established on his first missionary tour: Perga, Antioch (Pisidia), Iconium, Lystra, Derbe etc. (see Acts 13-14).  Here Paul had preached the pure gospel of grace and salvation by faith in Jesus Christ (“who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age”). But others (Judaizers) taught that they also had to keep the OT law to be saved.  This brought much confusion and also became a point of pride of how well they “knew” and kept the Jewish law;  so it deteriorated into a system of works and legalism. Paul says, “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all.” (v.6-7 NIV84).  Paul wants them to come back to the freedom of the true gospel (Good News) of salvation by faith and grace. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
